I had training tonight and wasn't sure if it would be sold out when I got home. Thankfully it wasn't and I was able to preorder one.

Alright just watched the Smoovs video again. He's G1, looks like a great mould, cool blueprint. There goes $140
Grapple was a relatively minor character in the G1 cartoon. The Solar Power Tower was his main claim to fame, otherwise he was pretty much a second fiddle.

He had a marginally more prominent role in the G1 comics though, most notably single-handedly creating Omega Supreme! Yeah that's right, G1 comic Grapple built a stupid tower whereas G1 comic Grapple built Omega freakin' Supreme! Comic Grapple was also part of a valiant (if not futile) stand again Galvatron and the future Decepticons in Target: 2006.

IMO if Hasbro were to ever release this toy then I reckon they should replace the blueprints for the tower with the blueprints for Omega Supreme, and replace the miniature tower with a memory crystal. As many of you may recall, unlike the G1 cartoon where many of these second year characters just appeared out of nowhere and pretended that they were there the whole time, the G1 comics provided explanations as to why new characters appeared! In the case of Grapple and the other 2nd year Autobot Cars, they were pre-existing Autobots on Cybertron who had their memories were uploaded into crystals and stored aboard the Ark in case Optimus Prime needed additional forces, he could construct new bodies and bring them to life with these crystals. This was possibly the first time that we saw Transformers portrayed as being able to survive as beings of consciousness outside of a physical body - a concept that would be later revisited in the G1 cartoon in "Starscream's Brigade" (the Combaticons had their minds removed and imprisoned with their original bodies destroyed), and later in the IDW comics where a Cybertronian's Spark could be imprisoned separately from the body (e.g. Arcee during her internment at Garrus-9). I'd also like to see a toy and comic (and every other G1 media other than the cartoon) accurate completely black helmet instead of the black with yellow horn helmet that TakaraTOMY has. Nothing wrong with it per se, but it'd be a neat way for Hasbro to further differentiate their version.
