    I went ahead & bought a Japanese C-310 God Ginrai reissue several days ago. I already have the Hasbro Optimus with Apex armour and wanted to know the differences.

    Glad to help....

    Autobot = Cybertron = C-XXX
    Decepticon = Destron = D-XXX

    In japan most figures were released as singles, and also as a "Team", so combiners would have 1 to 5 in sequence, then the 6th as the combiner itself for the giftpack. This continues on for things like the Powermaster Jets, Ginrai and Godbomber, Star Sabre and Victory Leo, etc etc.

    Many Japanese 'combiners' were sold as individuals and as giftsets. C-307 is the Japanese equivalent of Powermaster Optimus Prime. C-309 is the Godbomber trailer. C-310 is both together.

    Well if your new to this you need an extra piece of info...

    the C/D system only started in the thirdyear of toys, so the 1984/85 (85/86 in japan) series are 1-50 (or so) 84 Cybertrons first, then 84 Destrons, and repeat....

    EHobby reissues and exclusives have recently fleshed out 50 to 100 quite a bit...

    Then for the 86 toyline, both C and D started at 50

    The 200's barely exist, all the Pretenders, 300's are the Non-Pretenders from Masterforce onwards.

    That's really handy.

    I've always thought to myself why Dirge, Ironhide & Ratchet were relatively low down the numbering system (#97, 98 & 99 respectively) when they were popular G1 characters. And the way Ironhhide was killed off in the G1 movie still brings a tear to my eye.

    Ironhide wasn't released in Japan until 2001, and Ratchet and Dirge were only mailaways (again, until 2001. Although I guess Ratchet and Ironhide were still technically just mailaways until 2007.) Poor Gears was the most mistreated Japanese GeeWun character, never released at all until 2004.
