The "Government of Tuvalu" thing has turned me right off these WTF

    Geography
Tuvalu consists of nine small islands scattered over 500,000 sq mi of the western Pacific, just south of the equator. The islands include Niulakita, Nukulaelae, Funafuti, Nukufetau, Vaitupu, Nui, Niutao, Nanumaga (Nanumanga), and Nanumea.

    Government
Constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary democracy.

    History
Formerly the Ellice Islands, Tuvalu's first Polynesian settlers were probably Samoans or Tongans. The Ellice Islands became a British protectorate in 1892 and were annexed by Britain in 1915–1916 as part of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands Colony. The Ellice Islands were separated from the Gilberts in 1975, given home rule, and renamed Tuvalu. Full independence was granted on Sept. 30, 1978, but Tuvalu remained part of the Commonwealth. In 1979, the U.S. gave Tuvalu four islands that had been U.S. territory.

This is the reply i received when i just asked why they were made for Tuvalu, i also asked for any info they could give me about why there were TF coins and if there would be any Australian ones.

    Hello Glorious leader

Thank you for your email regarding the Transformers coins.

Yes – the Perth Mint issues all of Tuvalu’s commemorative coins which amounts to several programs each year.

The Tuvalu coin program has an interest in strong and popular themes that appeal to a worldwide audience, and Transformers is one of those.

Australian Transformers coins will not be issued due to the commercial nature of the theme.

I hope you enjoy the Transformers coins and Perth Mint coins in particular.

    Sincerely

Hey Guys if you want these, you better hurry up because of overseas links to the Perth Mint they are no longer doing online orders due to the small amount left, you have to ring or go in personally...There has been a unprecedented buy up of these.

Could have been my fault because I posted about this on TFW2005...?

My friend ordered a set for me (he only ordered the Optimus Prime one for himself) yesterday and our order got through. He'll be picking them up from Perth Mint next week.

The Perth Mint were wonder why they were getting so many hit on the website. They didn't even know about the post on TFW2005 until my mum rang them just to make sure the ones she ordered for me were still available and she told them about the posting. They weren't expecting so much interest and so fast. Now they know why there was so much interest.. I'm getting one of each for my collection.

The general public seems to be oblivious or underestimate the Transformers fandom. It's accepted that there are committed fans of things like Star Wars, Star Trek, Dr Who, etc, but something that essentially started out as a mere toyline, we (the fans) just don't exist to people, including the mainstream media.

I guess me ordering 8 of them on behalf of myself, my bother and my friends didnt help the supply...

but yeah when i was doing the order online, the website kept freezing up and crashed my computer....so that definitely must have been from the overseas attention.... i had to ring them up instead...lol...

Hopefully i can pick them up sometime after the 14th next week. schweeet...

FYI, I just rang up the mint to check on the status of my coins and the chick at the other end told me that there will be some delays as the packaging keeps popping out the coins and they "may" correct the issue by providing a different packaging. fingers crossed that they resolve it soon.

Now i know why roller's coins in the july aquisition thread had his megatron coin popped out...

I would have got these if they weren't ROTF themed

I reckon they would have sold even more like hotcakes if they were molded with Cyber Planet Key motifs. Well.... I can only dream

My friend finally picked up our order this morning, but I won't see him until Monday.
