TF2 now past TF1 takings in just 3 weeks.
In just 3 weeks, TF2 has now passed the total earnings of TF1, and continues to grow in takings. And it actually passed that figure on its 17th day in the US.
The entire earnings for TF1 were US$319,246,193 (in USA) and $708,272,592 (worldwide).
The earnings so far for TF2 are US$350,116,636 (in USA) and $733,174,657 (worldwide).
Of that total, Australia has contributed US$26,221,043 as of 12th July.
But did Harry Potter 6 blitz TF2's opening day record as I had originally thought it would?
Apparently not.
TF2 made $60.6 million in America on approximately 9,700 screens at 4,234 sites on its openning day. HP6 'only' made $58.2 million on nearly 10,000 screens at 4,275 sites (it made less despite being shown on more screens).
It is still a record opening-day amount for the Harry Potter movies, but wasn't good enough to take away the wednesday opening-day record from Transfomers.
And will it beat the takings of TF2? Globally, yes, as HP movies appear to get twice the non-US takings, as US takings, while TFs seems to get almost equal proportions in its takings.
Within the US though, HP might not beat TFs, as only one HP movie has ever made more than US$300million in America (both TF1 and TF2 have made more than every HP movie in America)
