Where did you find that?! and how does it compare to the traditional Frew Phantom we all know and love?

JB HiFi. As it's a new release, they're selling the set for about $37, but I suspect they'll be raising the price back up to $48 within the next few days/week or two.

Honestly, it depends on what you're looking for in a series, and Phantom 2040 isn't exactly everyone's cup of tea. Suffice it to say, I enjoy the show immensely, though I do have a habit of liking things others don't.

To give you an idea of what the show's like, many elements were reused in "The Phantom VS Singh Brotherhood 2050!" (aka Frew #1276), such as the futuristic designs, orbital space platforms, and high-tech living. As with "2050!", the show has its own unique art style designed by Peter Chung (whom used a similar style for his celebrated "Aeon Flux" property) which I suspect is where most of the complaints lie.

If you can get past the character designs and the show's tendency to be quite preachy when laying down environmental messages (though it's far more subtle than Captain Planet ever was, and serves towards an overall 'Nature VS Technology' subplot), then you should have fun with it.

Characterization is one of the show's greatest strengths (Kit thrust into a role he has no desire or experience to, Rebecca's snide confidence yet sadness over losing her husband), as virtually every character has their own unique story, trials and tribulations, plus their decisions can (and do) alter the show's final outcome. The voice actors, while 'name' celebrities, truly do give it their all (in particular Scott Valentine/Kit Walker, Margot Kidder/Rebecca Madison, Jeff Bennett/Maxwell Jr., and Mark Hamill/Doctor Jak) and help the audience buy into their characters.

Animation-wise, it's not a visual masterpiece (though I am fascinated by the CGI/traditional mix for Metropia), and the DVDs themselves aren't exactly as crisp and clean as I had hoped (though maybe it's because I'm watching it on a large widescreen television), or expected from 5 episodes a disc. It's still watchable, but could be improved. Plus I have to mention the music (especially main theme) is superb.

In short, definitely worth giving it a go. May take a little time adjusting, but a great tale in the end.

Thanks for the insight, I might just give it a look in, especially since it is written by Lee Falk.

I've received confirmation earlier today that I got the promotion at my work. It came about due to organisation re-structure. Been sweating on it for several weeks but cannot contain my joy. It's welcome news given I'm currently on business travel for the last 2 weeks to regional Vic. No begrudging regional Vic ... It's travelling & staying in motel/hotel alone that's a bit depressing. Sure missing the wife.

So I've moved into a manager role. But what this all means is more coin for TF acquisitions!

    Ahhh ...... no.

I thought it was well established on another thread that the only way anyone was willing to cough up coin for Ultimetal Prime was to win the Jackpot of a $20 million Tatts draw. I'm still hopeful.
