That's the problem I was saying years ago when these KOs started showing up - once they start changing hands in circulation, many will end up in the hands of people who honestly thought they had bought a vintage toy, and try to sell it as such, leaving them open to criticism and abuse for looking like they were the ones trying to scam collectors.
And its especially harder with the less well-known KO's. Most collectors and dealers know about the Dinobots, Optimus, etc - but Red Alert is one you don't see show up too often.
To the sellers credit, he did add some info at the bottom of the auction explaining they a couple of ebayers had let him know it might be a fake. If it were me, I would've pulled the auction and listed again as a KO though.
I agree. If he became concerned it wasn't legitimate he should have pulled listing and relisted making it clear he was not sure if legit or KO. It was good that he put the updates but just looking at the listing on a mobile, people may not have noticed it (which is partly their own fault).
