But isn't that what some dealers do to get around ebay fees - have a really low Buy-it-now, with a hefty shipping cost. Or did ebay put a stop that?

I think they have gone some way toward stopping that. I was selling a pile of comics which would have cost me around $10 to send because of the weight.
I tried to put $10 as the shipping but the system wouldn't allow it.
Ebay system said some crap about getting more bidders with lower shipping and the maximum it would allow me to put in the postage cost for the comics category was $5.
