Thumbs up Starcraft II Designers draw inspiration from Transformers

Where does the game inspiration come from?
Everyone says this, but it comes from everywhere. Movies; Star Wars, Matrix, anime, comic books. And I think our generation, growing up with Transformers and GI Joe - not these weird movie versions, but the originals - growing up with that kind of stuff just gets you in the right mindset. I used to draw all the time, usually Transformers or GI Joe vehicles and I think that helps get the creative juices flowing. But we'll pull inspiration from anywhere - we've seen some great pictures of sea life and think 'That's got some cool lines for a Zerg on it'.
    FTW!!!!

I used to be a hardcore Starcraft fan (still am) and I really hope they don't screw up or sell out on Starcraft 2. I have lost faith in Blizzard since WoW came out.

This bit they did to promote the engine kind of shows that they are TF fans:

    1. Im just hoping that the long time it has/is taking to make sc2 means it wont be sellout, but pure win.
    2. my faith will be restored if the above is tru

Apparently there's no LAN component for starcraft 2, only battle.net Soooo many fond memories of LAN nights with it, people screaming from opposite ends of the house hahaha

bad luck - There won't be. This is one of the reasons why I feel that Blizzard are now sell outs. They want to force you to connect through battle.net so that they can flood you with advertisement and monitor your game assuming they don't charge you to get in to begin with.

Hopefully some smarty out there will create hack that allows you to bypass Battle.net.

That comes as little surprise - but it's neat to have it confirmed. I'd say that Transformers would've had some influence on the design of the Siege Tank.

The Battle Cruiser was possibly inspired by the animé series "Space Battle Cruiser Yamato" (aka Starblazers), with the game making a fairly obvious tribute by naming that vehicle's primary weapon as the "Yamato Cannon."

The TF nerd in me would _like_ to believe that the Terran Marines' armour was inspired by the Autobot Pretenders' shells, but that'd probably be stretching it. But on numerous occasions I've played with my Autobot Pretenders as assuming the disguise of humans in the future and fighting alongside space marines (using my Starcraft Terran Marine toy) with their fellow marines blissfully unaware that a small cadre of their number are actually giant effing transforming robots - until of course some complication forces them to reveal themselves and freak the crap out of their team mates, eheheheh. Although in other scenarios I play it so that they never actually show themselves coming out and back into their shells in the presence of human marines, maintaining their secret identities. I love playing with my toys.

Most of the influence clearly comes from Warhammer 40k - particularly when it comes to the Terrans and Protos. I think that's where the armor comes from as its almost the same in not just concept but style too.

Of course, that's just in looks as the lore is radically different.
