For centuries the Decepticons and the Autobots have waged a war with the fate of the universe at stake. When the battle comes to Earth, all that stands between the evil Decepticons and ultimate power is a clue held by Sam, an average teenager, unaware that he alone is mankind's last chance for survival.

Save yourselves the pain of having it blow out to 3 hours because of ads and buy the dvd.

I'm surprised they didn't hold off until the release of the TF2 DVD, or screen it when TF2 was in theatres, to capitalise on the renewed interest (like when a movie is in theatres and TV stations play prequels or another film with the same leading star in it).

    School holidays.

I haven't watched Aus T.V. in years and had no idea that the turnaround on big blockbuster releases was so quick. I remember it used to be at least 5 (possibly more) years.

llama, that was before DVDs made the blockbusters so accessible.

It used to go something like this:

+ 6m-1 year after cinema, movie hits the video store (VHS)
    + 2yrs+ movie hits TV

    Now it's more like this:

+ 1 week after cinema opening, KO DVD (handycam in cinema) on the streets of Kuala Lumpur & Jakarta
+ 2 weeks after cinema, KO DVD (studio leak, usually of the upcoming DVD itself) on the streets of KL/Jakarta
+ 1 month after cinema, DVD in video stores
+ 2-6 months after cinema, on Showtime, hits DVD retailers
+ 1 year-18 months, poor old free-to-air gets the movie, after the hype is dead and it's down to 30c in Jakarta.

Free to air is the poor cousin nowaways. Which is part of the reason we don't get big Sunday night movies anymore - there's no point putting a 15 month old film in primetime when anyone who desperately wanted to see it has already, now they'll relegate it to a midweek slot and pump the latest reality show for primetime.

    Yes.

I recall one instance of it airing on Channel 7 many years ago.

Yep - my copy for at least a decade was the one I taped off Channel 7 at my Gran's house back when it was a midday movie in the '80s. I was poised and ready to cut out the ads the whole time and even drew and coloured my own case for it. One of my other Transformers home videotapes amused my then grown-up friends when they came over years later and read my primary school handwriting which looked to them like "TRANSPORNERS - DO NOT TAPE OVER!"

They used to show Transformers The Movie on Channel 7 on the morning of New Year's Day every year for several years for a while. That was one thing I used to look forward too on New Year's - watching TFTM!
