Default The Electronic Music Appreciation Thread

Thought I'd make this thread to see if there are any fellow Electro nutters out there.

I wasn't into music AT ALL until around year 11 in College...Just nothing did it for me. Then, one day, I stumbled into Revolution CD (a music/comic/dvd store in Canberra, well, it used to be) and decided to sift through a few albums in the 'alternative' section. I picked up an album with a frosted glass case and some bizarre architectural lines arranged on a plain white background. Thinking 'this is a bit different' I decided to give the CD a listen using the instore headphones/CD player and that was enough. I was hooked! The album was EP7 by Warp Records duo Autechre, who fans of Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada and their ilk will know as being pioneers of the IDM/braindance genre.

My music taste has since developed a lot since EP7 and while I still very much enjoy IDM (which sadly there really isn't a great deal of these days) I also enjoy Trance, Drum 'n' Bass (I think the most ultimate event I've been to was Calyx and Aphrodite in Canberra), Psy-Trance, pop, dub step (Burial FTW), Ambient, Lounge, House amongst others.

After college I was very much into the rave scene and would party all weekend (No pills...Promise ) usually to the tune of drum 'n' bass, breaks or Trance. You might not think so but Canberra had some pretty sweet music events! My idea of the perfect Friday/Saturday night is having a few drinks with friends and dancing all night to sweet, sweet electro music (in all its many any varied flavours).

At the moment I'm really enjoying the new albums from Little Dragon, Lusine, Hudson Mohawke (from the Warp label, same as Autechre ), Fever Ray, amongst others.

So is there anyone else with similar taste? Do you have an official Warp Aphex Twin shirt that you wear with pride? What are your electro picks for 2009?

i found out i like drum and bass recently, never would have thought i would, generally because my musical tastes stem from some crazy heavy metal XD

Im looking to expand my taste further, so anyone who could recommend anything that is upbeat and has a good bass line, im all ears

I very seldomly listen to non-Transformer music, but when I hear "electronic music" this song comes to mind.

Ooh 8-bit nu-rave. In that case I suggest you try out Ilkae's latest album, Bring Extra Dragon's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LG_5CwAt9rA

I'm a HUGE electronic music fan. My tastes cater more for the downtempo electronica. Am a pretty big (real) House music fan and currently liking the return to the disco sound within the genre. In no particular order or genre my favorite artists:
    - Trentemoller
    - Jay Denes (Blue Six/Naked Music)
    - Helios
    - Ulrich Schnauss
    - DJ Gregory
    - Louie Vega
    - Telefon Tel Aviv
    - Husky Rescue
    - Blu Mar Ten

To name just a few. Currently entranced by Urban Myth Club's - Helium album.

Ah Stompster, what exquisite taste you have. Anyone who is into ambient/melodic/introspective music AT ALL needs to check out Ulrich Schnauss' work. A Strangley Isolated place is probably the best palce to start.

Electronic music eh? The only stuff I have really considered as electronic is game music.

Doom e1m1, ghost 'n goblins, golden axe, etc. All good, especially remixes.
