    Default Evangelion

Do any of you guys collect any of the eva toys? over the past 5 years brands such as Kaiyodo and Bandai have begone producing different versions of the evangelions.
Kaiyodo produced units 00 - 05 in their reviltech line, while Bandai have released die cast soul of chogokin versions. So, anyone have any? are they any good?

I thought we already had a thread like this, but perhaps not.

Over the years I've collected some Eva stuff, Including the Bandai High Grade kits, the first run Kaiyodo figures and some Revoltech. I should point out aside from the Revoltechs I bought all these guys at end of the 90's and early 00's

    My opinions below.

    Bandai High grade Eva kits.
These are nice enough model kits, fairly poseable, the arm joint is covered by soft rubber sleeves to look show accurate, its a nice gimmick but limits arm articulation. The back of the eva model opens up and reveals a removable entry plug. They are larger than most of the other Eva options. As a kit they require a bit of work to put together, as well as some paint. Being models they are more fragile than toys. I had a few but sold most of them because I didn't want to double up after collecting a whole lot of Kaiyodo figures.

Bandai also produced some smaller cheaper regular grade kits too, avoid them like the plague, they have no redeeming features at all.

    Kaiyodo Eva Figures (not Revoltech)
The large Kaiyodo figures are probably still among my favourites. They are impressively sculpted and have excellent paintjobs. There articulation is limited compared to the Bandai kits, however their joints are cut in such a way they they can be posed in action poses, and the original sets all had pictures on the back showing the various poses on offer. generally speaking (as is common with Kaiyodo, early figures weren't that great but they improved over time. As the such Eva 01 figure is lacking in arm articulation, while the Eva 02 movie edition figure is a work of art. I'm particularly a fan of the hideous battle damage options the eva series units sport. Kaiyodo is very good at doing battle damage. This figures don't play well, but they display excellently, and are best thought of as poseable statues. It's not all good though they plastic pins they use for the joints become fragile with age, and I've had one or two break on me.

Get your Knife outta my head.

    Kaiyodo Revoltech.
I only really have one of these to talk about. As I'm satisfied with my previous collection I'm only really interested in the new movie exclusive Eva's and therefore only know about second generation Eva Revoltechs (first gen is different). I did buy Eva 03 movie ED though as it's my favourite. It's nice enough, not quite as large and impressive as the old figures, but more poesable. While the Bandai kit technically had more torso joints, the Revoltech still has a greater degree of movement. Paint is decent, though not as nice as the old Kaiyodo figures. One feature I like is they have stuck a wire in the fuel line that attaches to the back of the Eva so you can pose that too. Unfortunately my Eva 03 took a tumble of the bookcase and broke it's wing, so I can't comment to much on durability, having said that It's the only Revoltech I've broken do far, and I have quite a bit. Technically I also have the You (can) not Advance Eva 01 berserk version, and Eva Series Revoltechs MIB too, but I'm saving them for when I see the movie.

Display stand with extra height attachment = aerial kicks.

    Bandai Chogokin
I don't have any of these, the figures I have are enough. From pics they seem to combine some of the display aspects of the Kaiyodo figures with the joint system and gimmicks of the model kits. They are rather pricey though and Bandai are always releasing new versions with updated more accurate sculpts. generaly speaking Chogokin is good though, but i don't like Eva's that much.

The only Revoltechs i got were unit 01 and 02 from when they were first released back in oh... 2006ish? I was kind of disappointed with them, the plastic seems very bendy, almost like rubber, the detail wasnt bad but some paint apps were poor. I also have one of the Bandai Soul specs, teh Unit 01 awakening (purple, with orange-red highlights insteads of green) Im in love with that figure. I dont really care that its not all die cast like the earlier chogokins, but it definately makes up for it in poseability, detail and accessories. Also waiting for the robot damashii unit 01 release.

I bought _one_ Evangelion toy in Japan. It wasn't terribly exciting and it's since been stolen. I have several other EVA toys, but I didn't pay for any of them (they're all gifts from other people) - including small pewter statues of Rei and Asuka mounted on wooden bases which I've been told are quite rare.
