Apparently the director described it as being too gruesome, fearing backlash from kids who had all these original autobot toys

Yeah those deleted battle scenes were IMO necessary to show this wasnt just like any battle scene theyve shown in the series this was all out duking it out... ah well one can wish... incidentally it's a funny coincidence coz I went to JB Hi-Fi the other day and lo and behold they were showing on the sample TV the 1986 TF Movie. It was the scene when Devastator was "moving in for the kill" when I saw it
Stayed to watch for a few minutes even though Ive seen it so many times hehehe. It looks nicer on a big widescreen TV
