Considering how many KO's they have graded that end up on eBay, I don't trust them at all.

I have a strong feeling that my childhood Topspin did in fact come with a 1984 catalogue. I'm sure most of them did come with an '85 one, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of this Twin Twist's paperwork from his MISB-emancipation-straight-into-an-acrylic-prison being legit. (In fact, if one wanted to 'fake' something like this, wouldn't one use a 1985 catalogue, since it's more logical that he would come with the catalogue he's actually featured on?)

Holy **** And I thought $40 for a deluxe was overpriced...

I'm continually amazed by Ebay. At least while you rip off the potential buyer, give free shipping...

I'll be more amazed if someone buys it at that price, but knowing how crazy some collectors are, I'm sure there will be.

Hmm.. guess I should just get a $25 sideswipe, repaint it in those colours, and tada enough for a fort max!!!

That's the sort of price that piece goes for.

It is NOT a repainted Classics/Henkei Sideswipe, but if you read the auction description, it is the unassembled and sealed BotCon custom class model kit. This is seriously rare because not more than 50 were given out (more may be made, I don't know) and people who attended the custom class would have opened it and tried to built the Sideswipe. A sealed sample would originally have to have come from someone who (1) attended BotCon 2010; (2) managed to register/attend/fight his or her way into the custom class, which itself only has limited places and is one of the many activities going on at BotCon; (3) grabbed a kit; (4) resisted opening it when everybody else is tearing the thing apart; and (5) went and also gotten the custom decal sheet.

I know some "Holy Grail" collectors over at TFW 2005 to have paid approximately US$1000 for the sealed kits (but then, these are also the people who has a few Grand Maxes, a few Galaxy Shuttles, the entire G1 US run MIB and so on...).

Personally, I am not concerned about collecting something like that, but it is truly rare and the price is also likely to rise further.

You are right. I was ignorant to say it was a rip off. I still want to express how shocked I am at such values- it is insane, but also reality of the market. Apologies to anyone offended by my previous remarks on this matter.

On another note, just the notion of multiple of galaxy shuttle or grand max sends shivers down my spine- I don't know their cost but I'd imagine they are hefty.

The nature of these collectors' collections is somewhat beyond the realms of reason or belief (pick one). Multiples of rare Japanese pieces (same guy above also has like 3 Minerva - one loose, one MIB, one MISB, etc), MIB US G1 and AFA graded pieces of the entire 1984 to 1985 line (excepting Megatron for obvious reasons). And this is just one guy. Another guy has the entire G1 Japanese run, all MISB, all AFA graded. Now imagine there are another 70+ collectors like him (cos that's the size of that invite only group, which I'm a part of but a small potato to be sure).
