I still say that Jack's mum's a beauty.
As for the Emmy... did Prime actually win the Emmy or was it just nominated? And for which category?
I enjoyed this episode. June may be overbearing of Jack, but as a woman who became a single mother because Jack's dad ran off on them, I can understand why she would be particularly protective of Jack. And I think that it's a bold move for TF Prime as a kids' cartoon series to even explicitly mention that June's single parent status is because her husband/boyfriend did the runner. Unfortunately some parents do abandon their families - and I think that some kids in that situation might be able to relate to Jack in that regard (after all, the entire reason why human characters should even exist in TFs is to help the audience to relate). Off the top of my head I can't think of any other human characters in Transformers who were raised by single parents because the other parent abandoned the family. G1's Sparkplug Witwicky was a single father, but that was because he was a widower. But even then, G1 never really talked about that (we only know about it because in it's in the Production Bible
). Oh yeah, and Isaac Sumdac was a single parent too... but we all know the reason for that!
So I have some respect for the writers to even touch on the issue of a broken family that's the result of abandonment by one of the parents... a pretty heavy issue for a kids' cartoon.
It's gonna be interesting to see how HasTak tackle the challenge of engineering an Airachnid toy... I must admit that I'm skeptical over whether or not it can be done well. As most of you know, I'm not a fan of Transformers being designed as screen characters first and toys second. But hey... maybe HasTak will surprise me and make a good Airachnid toy (go on HasTak - do it! I dare you to pleasantly surprise me!!)
I also liked how Breakdown delivered Airachnid to Megatron at the end of the episode. Heh... take that, spider-wench!
Miko... oh my slaggin' god... I wish Bulkhead would just accidentally step on her or something. She has got to be the single most useless and annoying character in that show. Do the Autobots have any sense of responsibility over this child? (or say, the FBI...) Cos if they did, they really should either:
A) Physically restrain or imprison Miko each time the groundbridge is activated and an Autobot is deployed. Seriously. She repeatedly disobeys instructions to stay put and for her own safety she should be restrained or detained. Or...
B) Ban her. She adds nothing to the team. Raf has computer smarts and Jack has saved Arcee and helps her with stuff like aligning her targetting thingamajiggy... what does Miko do? Hang around the base and tries to be a Guitar Hero. Riiight. Get the slag outta there!!
Okay, maybe June doesn't add much either, but her son is there, so at least she has some excuse to come to the base cos she cares/worries about him. What's Miko's excuse? She gets bored and lonely with her foster parents?? Cry me a river, sweetheart!
She can hang out with Bulkie when he's OFF-DUTY. It's not Jack tags along with his mum when she does her nursing shifts at the hospital!!
