Um, i did mention new Wii U games: 3D Mario, new Zelda, new Yoshi, new Monolith game. Plus theres Pikimin 3, LEGO City Undercover, The Wonderful 101, Mario Kart, plus more. And yes i'm excited about possible Gamecube re-launches, even though ive played them all before. Theres nothing wrong with old games, Heck, most of them are better, longer and harder than most of todays garbage. You can's say you've never bought or played a HD repack of an old game (Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy,)
Its funny how Nintendo gets bashed for releasing upgraded classic games and sequels, which still outplay most of todays titles, yet other systems release sequels (yearly updates of their games) which dont change gameplay, only characters and weapons, without a word said. e.g. COD series, FF series, Halo series. Its the same with Transformers: same robot, different coloured head, OMG GOTTA BUY IT![]()
I think you're misunderstanding a bit, Wind Waker HD is a full remake not a Virtual Console release. Sure they could still have GCN games on Virtual Console one day but like the rest of the VC games they'll probably be exact. Maybe some upscaling but no extra effort - this is the company that still hasn't released and Super FX chip games on the VC after all!
How old are you out of interest? I remember when N64 was coming out and there was nothing i wanted more than Nintendo's big games (which they delivered in spades, albeit slowly!). But now, virtually everything they do has been played out so many times before for me. There's no doubting the quality is still high, and that they introduce heaps more new ideas than most developers (except in Mario Kart!)... but i just find myself feeling like i've played half their games before i've even turned it on! Their best game in recent times is Pullblox which is entirely new, so they've still got it in them, but man they are just trapped within their franchises.
Half the bashing you see isn't from people who're anti-nintendo or anything either, it's from longtime players who just want one of their less-often sequelled games to get some love instead of Mario for a change!
In the case of Tets above though, he's just a rabid Sega fanboy stuck in the 16 bit era so don't worry about him![]()
I'm 34, married with 3 kids. My other hobbies are surfing (ocean type, not the Internet), fishing, building VW engines and drag racing them and of course video games. I've bought all Nintendo consoles and handhelds at launch, except for the NES and SNES. I also own an XBOX, X360, PSONE and sold my PS2 last year.
As for feeling like you've played half the games before even turning them on, that's how I feel about nearly every game I play today. Originality is rare in games today. Sure there might be an original concept or story somewhere in a game but the rest of the game is following in the footsteps of 10 games before it. If you enjoyed a game, what's wrong with playing its sequel, or HD upgrade?
And as for Wind Waker, it's no remake, just upgraded graphics (higher def, improved lighting), gamepad functionality and tune-up of overall game experience ( tighter controls, maybe fast tracking to islands once discovered). It also hasn't been confirmed if this will be disc or digital game. I can't see why it won't be available on the Virtual Console as they are launching at the same time. Time will tell.
Nintendo stick with their big franchises because that's what brings in the money. Why do you think Micrcosoft release a Halo game every 1-2 years, or why CoD is released annually? But the difference with Nintendo is that they change it up every once in a while. I can't see Halo being released in cel-shaded style, or CoD switching to 3rd person instead of FPS. They would lose 90% of their fan base. Nintendo have the balls to try new things and most times it pays off. They still make their games fun. Sure they left out Star Fox and Metroid in their future release news, but It doesn't mean we won't see them.
Ahem... Most games now have one too many dimensions for my liking!
Sega fanboy-ness aside, Considering all the new tech and shebang they slap in the wiiU, they still just rehash they good old stuff. Yeah, people buy what they know, but I am jaded by the wii, when about the only good games were nintendo ones... I guess it's an industry thing. Or maybe the wii was a victim of it's own success, most wii games are party shit made badly for the quick sell.
Plus I am generally against DL games, especially at the prices we get charged.

Speaking of vomit I just dug out my copy of Quake 2 and after a short session of motion sickness just managed to avoid bringing up my breakfast.
Good times.
Reminds me of the time I was having a few glasses of wine and thought it would be a good idea to play NiGHTS and try for some speed runs.
Not such a good idea...
