It's kinda interesting to look at the 'Arch Nemesis' thing. Not many of the G1 characters, considering the hundreds that there are, actually have them. From what I can think of:
Optimus vs Megatron (Comic & Cartoon)
Rodimus vs Galvatron (Cartoon)
Ultra Magnus vs Cyclonus (Cartoon)
Ultra Magnus vs Galvatron (Comic)
Blaster vs Soundwave (Cartoon & Comic)
Grimlock vs Shockwave (Comic & FOC)
Metroplex vs Trypticon (Cartoon)
Fort Max vs Scorponok (Cartoon)
Omega Supreme vs Devestator (Cartoon)
Sky Lynx vs Predaking (Cartoon)
Aerialbots vs Stunticons (Cartoon)
Protectobots vs Combaticons (Cartoon)
Technobots vs Terrorcons (Cartoon)
Primus vs Unicron (Comic)
So out of 'big name characters' Starscream, Jazz & Prowl seem a bit left out. Ironhide too I guess.
I suppose Starscream is against everybody in a way![]()
I can't remember Sky Lynx ever fighting Predaking. My memory of season 3 is pretty lacking though as I've barely rewatched it in the last 15 years, but it's had a few mentions. Guess I just forgot about it?
Grimlock vs Scorponok is a bit of a thing these days in the comics.
Same with Omega Supreme and Monstructor.
Bumblebee vs Ravage was pretty common in the early fiction too right? (by which I mean storybooks and colouring books too)
Amd a few more if you include Headmasters, Masterforce & Victory cartoons![]()
SL = Spotlight, sorry. Crap story, but it's the best I can think of. Although I do like the idea of Jazz and Razorclaw as primary nemesis of each other. It works quite well, IMO.
I also remember from DW, at the start of the second miniseries, during the initial fight scene in the cold opening, there was symbolism behind the match-ups, and between who was fighting who.
I'll have to check if Jazz was even there, and if so, who he was up against.
EDIT: He was present, but we don't see him until after the other Cybertronians arrive, so we don't know who he was up against. We see Megatron and the 3 main Seekers paired with their Autobot counterpart, so we can count them out, for that theory.
Interestingly enough, and directly answering Trev's statement in a way, paired off against the Seekers are Ironhide vs Skywarp, Prowl vs Starscream, and Mirage vs Thundercracker.

Looking To Buy Either Siege Or Earthrise Ratchet, and Buzzworthy SS86 ER Cliffjumper.
I remember the scene you are talking about. It was kinda cool as in
Prowl vs Starscream - the two First Luitenants facing off
Mirage vs Thundercracker - the two unsure of their allegiance facing off
Ironhide vs Skywarp - the two guys that are in like every single battle facing off
I'm not sure this one scene can be construed as personal rivalries or bots facing their arch nemesis. Maybe their counterparts yes. Personally I always saw Mirage's nemesis as Cliffjumper![]()
Good point. I know the writer did point out the signifigance of those match-ups. Can't recall if it was in the TPB or in an interview online. I'll check later on his exact wording.
Personally, I think Mirage vs Thundercracker is perfect.
I think Prowl and Skywarp would have been a better match, for the heavy use of tactics by both. If I could have included Soundwave or Shockwave, I'd have chosen one of them. Probably Shockwave.
Ironhide would be against Soundwave. (Also helping making me push Shockwave against Prowl).
But if I had to just use the 3 Seekers, I'm not sure who'd be best against Starscream. Prowl only works because of rank, not because of any personal trait. I can't think of anyone better. Best I've got is Hot Rod, and I don't even like that too much.
EDIT: Yep, it's in the TPB. I'll copy it exactly as explained by 'Brad Mick': ''Notice that while Prime and Megatron duke it out in the foreground, their respective loyal and scheming seconds-in-command (Prowl and Starscream) go toe-to-toe in the background. Also, sneak a peek at Thundercracker and Mirage (two warriors not completely sold on their commanders' causes) battling as well. Within these smaller battles we see the conflict between loyalty and betrayal physically played out, a theme that would be the driving force of the entire series.''
Interesting that he doesn't mention the only other match-up we see on those pages: Ironhide against Skywarp. We see several panels of them fighting, but no mention in the commentary. Interesting that he didn't mention them, no? Although I guess the argument is that while we see a fairly even match-up between the other pairs, we see Skywarp annihilate Ironhide by teleporting behind him.
I'd also forgotten how badly done that sequence is. The staging is atrocious, and the panel layout goes against the natural flow of how you'd tend to look at them. It's not til you realise that Ironhide is wounded that you've read those panels backwards. Awful layouts there. Then straight after that the Prime vs Megatron insets are just as confusing and unclear. Absolutely unnecessary.
Google it with Safesearch off and you'll find that the Internet has already answered that for you*.
*I really don't recommend doing that.

For the G1 Seekers, I'd like to see
Mirage v Skywarp. Cat & mouse
Sunstreaker v Starscream. Supreme egos & underhanded tactics
Thundercracker? I'm leaning towards Jazz. Decibel overload
I didnt put Mirage & Thundercracker together because i think they'd just shrug off their differences & go have a drink somewhere![]()
