In the latest episode of Family Guy one of Megs friends calls her Megan because that's her name and Meg says "Actually my name is short for something else". They flashback to her birth and Peter changes the name on her birth certificate from Megan to Megatron.

Sounds similar to the situation of a good friend of mine.

He's had to go through life with a misspelled first name, due to his father spelling it incorrectly when doing the birth certificate paperwork.

I had a similar issue. All my life all my legal documents have Roberto as my given name, it was only about 7-8 years ago when my Mum and Dad did their will the lawyer noticed my birth certificate had my name as Robert. So I had to change my name by deed poll because of an o.

My partner has a misspelled/misspelt name as well. The nurse who wrote the name down got it wrong. Never got changed though.

    Mathew.

(Even funnier when his father admitted years later that he was just a little bit tipsy while filling out said paperwork. He'd been celebrating his newborn son, and was apparently still celebrating.)

It's caused my friend a lot of trouble, as he always gets asked why it's spelled that way.

That would be an annoyance but luckily it wasn't completely stuffed up like no 'h' or something. I imagine his mum being furious with dad.
