It's as if the figure used to be be an elite athlete but has let himself go around the middle and grown saggy manboobs.

Still can't wait for mine to show up!
That is a photoshop pic according to the post.

Yep, I understand that. The one on the left is the actual toy, which looks a bit funny, and the one on the right is a photoshop mod which improves the proportions of the robot mode. This highlights what looks odd about the figure we're getting.

Ironhide's proportions varied throughout the G1 cartoon (which is hardly renowned for its consistency ). But overall, I think that MP Ironhide's proportions are pretty close to the average proportion of G1 cartoon Ironhide. In the diagram below I've used yellow lines to indicate the width of the shoulders in proportion to the hips, the blue lines indicate how much of his chest protrudes from the shoulder/hip line, and the green line is the nipple line (i.e. where the nipples would be if Ironhide were a human male).

I've deliberately disregarded the vehicle hip kibble, cos here's the thing... G1 cartoon Ironhide carries zero vehicle kibble in robot mode aside from the front section of the vehicle. Everything else magically disappears into thin air when he transforms. The toy cannot do this. Try as it may, it simply cannot defy the laws of reality. So there are going to invariably be compromises made; i.e. the toy designers have to put all those vehicle parts somewhere in robot mode! So yeah, there's going to be some shellforming. Let's compare this with previous incarnations...
    • G1 Ironhide Carries all four wheels on the arms and legs and parts of the rear bumper form the toes. Part of the lower panels form his thunder-thighs. The rest of the vehicle becomes his battle platform. (I'm not going to criticise this toy for not looking like the show since it was created long before the cartoon was)

    • Beast Wars Ironhide Again, no real resemblance to the original (other than the red homage; and this toy was later retconned as being the same character as G1 Ironhide anyway)

    • Timelines Ironhide Opportunistically redecoed from Energon Tow-Line, about 70% of the vehicle becomes the battle platform. Also does not attempt to accurately mimic G1 Ironhide (other than the new head; any other resemblance is coincidental)

    • Universe/Henkei Ironhide A pretty good effort for a Deluxe figure. Vehicle suffers from having panel lines everywhere because this toy absorbs the entire vehicle mode into the robot (there's no detachable platform)! Also, the vehicle mode is an SUV and not a van. But all things considered, this is still a pretty remarkable toy.

    • MP Ironhide IMO this is a pretty darn good effort in attempting to make a show-accurate G1 Ironhide. The most accurate toy we've had to date. And remember that the transformation is meant to be intuitive and fun. Nobody likes an MP Megatron or BT Wheeljack/Grimlock level of transformation that's more frustrating than fun, and you're more likely to just transform it a few times and relegate it as a display piece.

TakaraTOMY toy designers engineers. Not gods.

Thing is, if you want the bot mode of Ironhide to look like the one on the right, then you'll likely end up with an alt mode that looks something like this:

And that's just a bit too off, as he ends up looking like a Winnebago rather than a van.

Ha ha! Every time I look at this pic, it reminds me of Eddie Murphy from Trading Places:

Here's the scene in case you don't know what the hell i'm on about!:

It'd be cool if the flipside of that coin had a toy-accurate head. Then you could heads or heads.

There's always going to be something to complain about, but the good certainly outweighs the bad. My two cents... face/head looks a bit thin, I guess

Now we need to replicate Ironhide's flying kick into Soundwave from episode 1 aboard the ark
