The answer is that it took 23 episodes before any of the Transformers actually called the Autobots or Decepticons 'Transformers'!
It was in 'The Autobot Run', where Megatron says, "excellent. Treachery is your forté, my dear Skywarp. Now the Autobots can no longer call themselves Transformers!"
(Which I find funny, since the Autobots had never called themselves Transformers before anyway.)
