Prime example (pun intended) the first edition Optimus from AOE on the box has alot of flashy chrome, whilst the figure itself is very grey (may need some cheering up).

But then the same figure was released with the reverse flames and flashy chrome with the trailer, this should've been how the figure should've looked like from the word get go.

So basically Hasbro has these "glamour" versions of their toys for their promotional photography which is different from the final product. Come to think of it, one hand of my CW Scavenger is a different shade of green from the rest of the toy. I got my CW Devastator from Big W, but my Scavenger came with two of the same side hand. I couldn't find another CW Devvie anywhere to do an exchange at the time, so the next time I visited Hasbro I just asked if I could swap hands with their display Devvie's Scavenger hand, and they happily allowed it. I figured that it must've been some running change between when Hasbro AU received their sample to show off to retail buyers and when the product was actually released - which may be true - but perhaps it may also be because they wanted a version that looked different in promotional photos. <shrugs>

Here's a question for those of you who enjoy "retconned gestalts" (e.g. CW Optimus Prime, Hound, Trailbreaker, Prowl, Mirage, Wheeljack etc.) -- would you collect a set of CW Decepticon Jets? Let's imagine if they took say the CW Skydive mould and redecoed it as a Seeker jet. Make the jet mode look a bit more like an F15 and give it a new head, presto, Starscream, Skywarp and Thundercracker. Throw in Acid Storm to make up the fourth limb and release a new version of CW Cyclonus to form the body.

If Hasbro released this say in a gift set, how many people here would actually buy it?

I translate Japanese instructions, bios etc. for Hasbro AU*, which requires me to occasionally pop into their office.

P.S.: As a Francophone, it may interest you to know that for all the English translations that I do for Hasbro, I always include a copy of the character's motto in Latin. Feel free to check out the Transformers quotes in Latin thread.

Well they have already done Starscream so your idea sounds good. I'd consider it. How about the Air Raid mould for the coneheads?

My son has been asking why they dont have a seekers Gestalt. It would go on the xmas list without a doubt.

Though one original mold for the torso and a method of connecting legend class thundercracker or skywarp (or both) would be awesome and then you have all the original seekers.

Or a retool of sky lynx to make a torso astrotrain.

Or a retool of Silverbolt to make a torso Octane.
    So many possibilities.

    Great idea.

Silverbolt as Octane is a pretty cool idea for a combiner, and with a roster of Seeker repaints... could practically have enough limbs for two combiners if you combine the original trio, the boneheads, and Substorm/Acid Storm... Then maybe a third with the other RainMakers plus Nacelle and another...

Tweak it into an Animated Starscream clones gestalt, I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

Depends. If they are able to achieve this level of bad-arsery, then yes

Retconned? Seriously dude? A crappy cartoon from 1984 is not the be all and end all of this hobby. Hasbro are allowed to do new things. Like Sky Reign. Sky Reign is awesome. I'd buy a Seeker Combiner, but only if it was as awesome as Sky Reign.
