In the games he turned into a cannon as said and a big boring space ship.
We didn't see a base mode, but before he transforms, he was in some sort of dormant state, you play whole level inside Trypticon, so that was the closest to base mode.
I'm guessing this toy will do its own thin, as never saw the exterior of Trippy con in the games in his inert state all at once, just bits at a time during the level.

Same deal in the optimus level where you reactivate metroplex.
But no official base mode in the games.
