Yesterday I got home and booted up the PS4. The console booted up nicely and the Drive issue was nothing more than a dislodged roller. So at this point I had a fully working PS4 and as mentioned, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the controller.

However the console was extremely filthy so as I have done with my PS3 in the past (and it was also filthy when I first got it) I pulled it apart to the plastic and washed the plastic parts and blew the all the dust bunnies out of the motherboard, fan and Power Supply. I put it all together and the PS4 was now looking a lot nicer...

Unfortunately when it came time to turn it on again - Power supply failure While blowing the dust out of it something must have happened to it. At first I was worried that it was the APU but all signs point to a bad power supply (console turns on blue, then 1.5 seconds later it turns off and then you can't turn it on again). If it were APU it will do this but you would be able to turn it on repeatedly.

At least Power Supplies are not too expensive. However I am hoping that is it as it is with these things, I can only make an informed guess and not 100% sure.

I will say this though, compared to the PS3, the PS4 has really shoddy build quality. Much of it feels rather cheap or unnecessarily fragile. I can see why they have a high failure rate.

I can only hope for the best now. I have ordered a new PSU but will see if I can get this one to work although I am always weary of pulling apart electrical transformers, etc.

Well I'm a little disappointed by a couple of things.

1: they still are making stupid gimmick games like 123 Switch and Arms.

2: they didn't mention how much memory is onboard or if it's upgradable. If I can't buy AAA in a downloadable format I won't be happy because I'm over disk/cartridges.

3: No word on Wii U to Switch transfers for Virtual Console, I want to know if it's safe to buy a couple of VC games I want on Wii U and have them move over to the Switch.

4: Mario Oddysee was rumoured to be a launch game, well I guess that was about the only rumour that was proven wrong today.

Remember how I said Skyrim was not Skyrim SE and you all crapped on me for that? Well Todd Howard did not say the words Special Edition, just as I said it's not the SE version it something different.

That said I'm going to head over to EB Games and place a preorder now that we know final SKU's, just don't know if I should buy the black/grey version or the black/red/blue version.

That's pitiful and disappointing, if not unexpected. For the $450 it'll end up being it's a joke. I am a fan of Nintendo but this might be the first console I do not buy, I love the concept and idea but the fact that I won't be able to download more than a handful of games at a time or without needing to rely on SD cards is awful.

So far it seems it is an iPad competitor for games than anything else. I think the final nail in the coffin will be the online connectivity and ability to transfer previously bought games on virtual console.

How long until they announce that they will no longer be supporting the 3DS as well to force people to purchase the switch? I hope they don't go down that path but they'll need to prop up the switch somehow.

Nothing official has been said either way by Nintendo but the fact is you have to look really hard in America to find a 3DS at a retail location. Either Nintendo are about to cancel it completely, or Nintendo America have under ordered production dramatically.

A popular hypothesis for why 3DS stock is drying up is that because the 3DS has been completely cracked and you can now pirate any 3DS software very easily Nintendo have seen the writing on the wall and decided to end production because they now can't make they type of money they need from the software lineup. Piracy was a huge issue for Sega's cash flow with the Dreamcast, so it might be Nintendo's turn to feel that pain.

I just realised the Switch launch might be a little like the N64 launch where we had 3 games at launch because EB Games is only listing Zelda, 1 2 3 Switch and Just Dance as 3rd March. Even the port of Mario Kart 8 is coming later.

Also the price at EB is $470.

The Mario video sort of gives the impression that it's meant to have that real life city area as a hub, but you can see it's actually a really small level about a third of the way through the video (as Mario leaps off a tall building and the camera moves so you can see below).
I'm really just here for the free food and open bar.

Just watching Giantbomb's Nintendo Switch reactions. They said that Nintendo is going to charging for online on the Switch just like Xbox Live and PSN, great...
