    I had difficulty choosing as I like both Comics/TV show equally.

    Eg:

    Marvel G1 - AWESOME
    BW Cartoon - AWESOME

    The G1 cartoon is still pretty good and I still enjoy watching it unlike other 80s cartoon shows which I find difficult to get into as an adult but loved as a kid. However although entertaining many of the stories in Sunbow G1 were very silly and the whole series incoherent. The Japanese G1 series were something else entirely in tone and 'personality'.

    When you read the Marvel comics it changes your perception of G1 as most people only identify with the cartoon. The scope of it changes considerably and makes you realize that the cartoon is but a small percentage of what G1 has to offer.

    To be fair, that is one of the silliest covers ever! I know its the classic issue#1 cover but the scale is literally monstrous even by TF standards!

    With me it also depends on what series we're talking about, but on the whole I prefer the comics.

    Here's my preferences:
    G1 = comics
    G2 = comics
    Beast Wars = cartoon
    Beast Machines = both*
    Car Robot/RiD = cartoon**
    Armada = comics
    Energon = comics

    I haven't read the Animated comics yet (waiting for the TPB) so I can't comment on that yet.

    ___________
    *Transformers Universe comics, but they're in the same continuity/canon as Beast Machines.
    **The RiD comic was a single-issue one-off thing that Dreamwave printed. But even then I didn't think it was well executed.

    Comics for me, except where Beast Wars is concerned.

    In some way I'm the oppsite. If not for a nostalgic familarity with the G1 cartoon characters I'd have difficulty even sitting through more than an ep of G1 these days. While it's one of the better toy cartoons I find there are still more enduring cartoons from my childhood, particualrly the ones that had overarching plots or humour.
