Default TakaraTomy working on a life-size Transformer

This is a long-term project in Japan, between several companies (including Tomy), that has now completed stage 1 of 3... with the final stage aiming to build a full-size car that can transform and move around.

    1st stage in 2014 - 1/4 scale (1.3m tall in robot mode)
    2nd stage in 2016 - 1/2 scale (2.5m tall in robot mode)
3rd stage in 2020 - full scale (5m tall in robot mode)

This first stage model is shown off in this video, in which it transforms and can move arms, head and shuffle/walk.

This article about the two main designers says that they haven't decided yet if the final product will be designed to have room to carry a human in side in car mode... but I'd hate to be inside and it suddenly starts transforming (like a fault or someone hacking in and commanding it to transform).

Something to look forward to from TakaraTomy in ten years time.
