    Default The Voltron Poll

    From the Parramatta Meet thread:

Vehicle Voltron much cooler than Lion Voltron. Never been a huge fan of the latter... come on, 15 vehicles that can dominate over land, sea and air (and space!) attached to a mobile battlecruiser is just so much cooler than five robotic lions based in... a kingdom?

And the Vehicle Force crew had non-humans too! It made it far more scifi and believable that Voltron was part of the Galactic Alliance. Plus that blue-skinned elven chick was HAWT! (Kirk'd!)

And the torso and head were separate vehicles whereas with Lion Voltron it's the same damn lion - so it made no sense when Keith would go, "form arms and torso..." - but wait, you ARE the torso! - "...and I'll form the head!" - what?! The head's attached to the torso? Oh... the head just flipped down. That's "forming" the head?!? It looked way cooler seeing that jet fly onto Vehicle Voltron's shoulders and _actually_ forming the head! Then the finally with that red jet forming the breastplate - yeah! And Vehicle Voltron had hands! He could flip the bird to a Ro-Beast... ya know, if he wanted to.

And forming the Blazing Sword with those two helicopter blades was cooler than just ... where the hell DOES Lion Voltron pull his Blazing Sword from?!? Sub-space??!? (o_O) And why pilot LIONS?! Your choice of intergalactic military vehicles: armoured terrain vehicles, submersibles and jet fighters vs. big cats. Ummm... hello?

Vehicle Voltron >>> Lion Voltron (plus their leader sounded like Optimus Prime cos he was dubbed by Peter Cullen! Phwoar! I think Cullen also dubbed some old mentor dude in Lion Force, but his character in the Vehicle Force series was actually their commander!)

I liked them both. I remember watching vehicle force (machine men style) voltron, then one day they had lion force (victory style) on and I was "wth is this???" but after a while I warmed to it.

I don't get it. Most of the things you don't like about the lion voltron series have to do with the English dub (reused combination dialogue, voice actors) but the poll is asking about the Japanese anime series?

Vehicle Voltron wins my vote because of the three combined modes the five land/air/sea vehicles could also form.

Lion Voltron had better villains, ones I can still name today. I have no idea of the names of the Vehicle Voltron's enemies (or the heroes either!)

From recollection, I was a massive fan of the vehicle Voltron as a kid and seem to recall even having the toys, but lion Voltron? meh, wasn't a fan at all.

Vehicle Voltron by far. IMO he has a cooler design than Lion Voltron, and the Vehicle Voltron series has more mature storylines and story arcs than Lion Voltron.

Is the leader you refer to Commander Hawkins? If so, Cullen did indeed voice him.

Cullen also supplied the voice of Coran in the Lion Voltron series, and also provided the narration for both series.

I prefered vehicle Voltron as a kid, it was just more sci-fi and interesting for me, also I loved the way the sperate teams had there own combined vehicle form.

That said I haven't watched either since childhood so there both a distant memory for me.

My main beef is more to do with the themes. IMO 15 vehicles (with 3 teams specialising in different environments) roaming around space in a battlecruiser defending the galaxy was more exciting to watch over 5 lions defending a princess' kingdom! Maybe cos I've always been more of a scifi fan over an ancient fantasy fan. Unless you can combine them

ftr I have both series on disc in Japanese. But I haven't bothered to watch them all yet.

I chose lion Voltron because its the one which I have the more vivid memory of as it kept repeating in syndication when I was a kid. I also remember vehicle voltron but I was too young to remember anything meaningful when it came out and it didn't repeat on TV like the other.
