Thank you :D I find them much easier to photograph than Transformers. Transformers have too many distracting bits due to the fact that they transform! Static figures are very easy to photograph because the only distracting bits are a small seam here or there.

I like the Nendoroid one among the little flowerbed, she looks so excited to be there!

I was trying to get the hueco mundo feel! Yay! If only I had a figure of Grimmjow to complete the look. All the figures above are the static non-poseable kind. Except for the Nendoroids.

Those little foods are brilliant, they're so much fun.

My camera is a Canon S100 compact - nothing terribly fancy, I suppose, but I'm still playing with the different shooting modes.

For this figure, I was aiming for a silhouetted look that would make the lights stand out, especially since the red LED for the eyes isn't as bright as the white one for the arc reactor. My aim was for something like the second shot, but there seems to be too much 'glare' from the arc reactor. Perhaps if I had shot it from a lower angle...?

perhaps you can cut a small piece of paper the shape of the reactor, then tape it over the light so the light dont glare too much

Try holding the camera on a slight angle to the light. The glare is probably happening because the LED is shining straight at the lens. Tilt the camera a bit and this should reduce the glare.

Or you can move the camera back, bung it on a tripod and zoom in as well.

try putting the light on each side and put some clothes on teh bulb ni minimise glare of the bulbs and adjust your aperture and play around with your shutter speed :) hope that helps

Very nice return to the Thread Jena, i especially like the water effects, the wallpaper (I'm guessing it's on your Ipad) and the natural lighting is coming up really nicely.

@magnus, I can't add much to what the others have already said, except for emphasizing the use of a tripod, and I think you've made a great start. I've had a fiddle with lighting effects like that and it certainly wasn't as nice as what you're starting with here.

The Toy shot is amazingly done! You have great sense of using a camera and the angle's in which you have taken the shots is a sign of good photographer...The zooming and focus looks perfect along with the effects you have applied!

Thanks for your feedback, everyone. After getting a new mini-tripod, tweaking my camera's ISO setting, and trying a couple of shooting modes, I (quickly) took a few new pics. This is the sort of effect I was aiming for, although I'll still need to try a few things to reduce the graininess:

Cheers guys... I am quite happy with my first foray into the field, and had plenty of fun despite many late nights and frequent profanity (I found the majority of the time was dominated by choosing, achieving and holding a pose!)

Yeah Megatron... no proper photography experience before, but plenty of inspiration from forums such as this one and a desire to experiment (and my Dad's SLR) got me more and more creative.

Already planning the next album! :)

It's well worth it if you're in Australia, since if you divided them equally, they're only a bit more than retail at around $40-45. They're really good and I love them to bits. I can't keep my eyes of Screamer especially.:o:cool:

that's a really interesting article, you might want to try putting your backdrop further away so it takes longer for the light from it to return to your camera. It also looks like he uses a seconday light source in nearly all his shots. couild make a big difference.

your last photo with the glowing eyes looks really good btw.

Hmm... Well if you wanted a single to stand out & be a fill in for the lack of an adequate Mega Mold figure - I'd say do it dude, if you don't end up liking it I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find someone who'd take it off your hands. ;):)
