How did people know back in early internet times, that some toys were not released in either the US or Australie?
Eg: Turbomasters, non combining constructicons
Did they see a pic of someones collection one day and say "wahhhh!! what toy is that???? By reagans beard ive never seen that one on sale!"
Before the internet was wide spread, did people know at all which toys had not been released in their countries?
I don't think we did really. We would only know that we and nobody else we knew could find it. Like Shockwave and the Deluxe Insecticons - I never found them and nobody I knew had them. But they appeared in catalogues so I assumed that they were around, just that nobody I knew could find them. As a kid I only got Transformers at shops or shopping centres that my mum would go to - it's not until you're old enough to take public transport on your own or drive that you can cast a much wider net when toy hunting.
And I had no knowledge of Japanese Transformers until about 1992 when I was exposed to Masterforce... dubbed - and while I always knew that the dubs where horrific, I didn't know that they'd actually majorly screwed up translations, so I actually though that Ginrai was Optimus Prime and that the Trainbots were the Dinobots. Whoever made the StarTV dubs needs to savaged in the janglies by a pack of vornskrs.
I knew which US toys weren't released in Australia - as long as you were a big fan who wasn't stupid or a liar, it wasn't too hard to realise that nobody had ever seen Shockwave, Sky Lynx or the Deluxe Insecticons on shelves (even though they were in catalogues. People who were stupid or liars thought 'Shackwave' was Shockwave and came in real Transformers packaging and said they had cartoon Skyfire or Unicron toys at home. I hated those kids, because other dumb kids really believed them.) I would personally have thought there were a few more Transformers we didn't get. Did anyone here seriously see Fortress Maximus on Australian shelves? Likewise, I know that in the UK, fans knew they didn't get Swoop, Shockwave etc. - they were even told so in the UK comic.
I didn't know at the time (when I was buying toys like Action Masters Tracks, Bombshell, Windmill, Thundercracker, Double Punch, Take-Off, Talon etc.) that those toys *weren't* released in the US. The internet and toy magazines told me so years later.
I know I knew there were Japanese only toys and I knew about Star Saber... I can't remember how I knew that though... Maybe from people I knew who went to Japan on holidays? I know I knew in the eighties that Japan had a different Astrotrain, because I saw a Japanese catalogue.
P.S. Roller - I don't think I have any G2 (or even G1) toys you're looking for. :(
I have two memories of seeing Fortress Maximus in store. The first is a bit vague (from the first time I saw the 87 range in store) but the second is much stronger. Both times were in indepedent toy stores, one in Victoria and one in Queensland.
But now I have a question: Has anyone bought the new edition of Toyfare (#140) with the ROTF cover and coverage? I was wondering if there's a lot of TF content in it or if it's just a couple of pages? The previous Toyfare TF movie toy edition was quite broad and devoted a lot of pages to TF toys.
I've cancelled my ToyFare subscription after 11 years... there's nothing in there that you can't find on the internet and they don't really do toy reviews anymore - everything's just spotlighting new toys. And their jokes aren't that funny anymore either. :(
Combat hero optimus prime was not released in Australia?
Nope. We missed both Combat Heroes, which was a shame, because CH Optimus was in the Gen2 comic (at the end), and at the time I was mostly only collecting the Gen2 toys that were in the comic.
Not having a purple tank megatron wasn't a great loss though... :p
them the loose one i bought must be super duper rare?:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
i got it for $5 no weapons or accessories:)
Japanese imports of Combat Megatron were easy to find here for some reason.
I got bored and started watching the first episode of Beast Wars Neo.
Now I've stuck Big Convoy and Magmatron on my wish list. The former because he's a woolly mammoth and more heavily armed than Brawl, and the latter because he's got three beast modes all of which are prehistoric reptiles. And I love prehistoric beast modes.
While I'm not going to go on eBay or something and buy them right now, I'm curious about how much I'd have to pay for each of them. I suspect Magmatron would be cheaper, given that he was re-released (with no changes, despite being labeled as a Maximal!) as part of the Beast Machines line, so I'd go for that.
can someone give me the dimentions for the TFC hotrod box?
i bought one MIB and the guy wants me to pay 41US to ship it here.... so i wana ask him why and prove he is being dodgy
i paid about $80 for mine from a fellow collector, a japanese version-the sword is sharper and not neutred for silly choke me children, its a super fun toy, the Seasaur module is the best in my opinion.
His appearance in the IDW comics also upped the appeal to me to fork out such a large some for this figure, plus i dont think he was released here.
Woolly mamoth prime, the toy doesn't excite me, but i might buy it soon cause of the IDW comics
SilverDragon: The Beast Wars Neo toyline is nice. They're all really nice moulds and feature a diverse range of beast modes with some unique choices. Mach Kick and Archadys were also based on fan designs! The TV show is mostly quite bland - but it does get interesting toward the end when the Blentrons appear. But it's kind of a snooze-fest up to that point. :p

who are the 3 tasmanian members here?
Just as a note, the Korean version of Neo and Car Robots figures are fine. I have the Korean Magmatron, RID Scourge and Rail racer, and do not have a problem with them at all.
My Korean Brave Maximus has an upside-down Autobot insignia on the city-mode tower and no tech specs card.
what is the differences with the korean versions of car robots, do they all not come with techspec cards?
OH CRAP
the completest in my head tells me to get both now :(
DAMM YOU STL, DAMM YOU TO HELL
:P
Unfortunately, the devil realised that I'm too awesome for Hell and sent me back. it's okay. You can continue to bask in my glorious presence.
The Korean BWs cards though were smaller than the Japanese versions and that made them harder to store imo. Didn't like them as the Japanese ones.
The Japanese cards are of better quality than the Korean ones... but to me the toy is more important. Other than the upside-down insignia on Brave Maximus, the Korean TFs are the same as their Japanese counterparts afaik.Quote:

i bought a korean God Magnus, and would have been pissed if it didnt come with a techspec card :P
if you dont want any of them, or any techspec cards for that matter, ill be happy to buy them off you :D
I threw out, sold or gave away most of my old Tech-Specs cards, but let me know if you want any of these:
Reissue: Galvatron, G2 Laser Prime, Pipes, Bumblebee, Swerve, Taligate, Outback.
Binaltech: Lambor, Streak, Hound.
Armada: Unicron sticker, (Japanese) Demolishor.
Energon: Snow Cat, Landmine, Rodimus, Demolishor, Bulkhead, Cliffjumper, Dreadwing, Tow-Line, Demolishor, Prowl, Barricade, Bulkhead, Scorponok, Downshift, Storm Jet.
Galaxy Force: Gasket, Thundercracker, Fang Wolf, Longrack, Vector Prime, Autolander, Starscream, Runabout, Hybrid Style Galaxy Convoy.
KT Figure Collection: Devastator.
Probably more, but that's all I can find.
i fired up my new G2 optimus primes voice box
and the voice sounds the same as G2 Megatrons.
Is it the same guy? my megatron is hidden in storage so i canna tell
Who knows... remember that these toys came out around the time we got those novelty keyholders that swear at people. :p
Has it ever been covered in TF fiction as to weather the mini-cassettes such as Howlback, Sundor, Glit, Garboil, Dial, Saur, Graphy, Noise. Raindance etc etc are minions of Soundwave/Blaster and Blaster/Twincast or are they possibly independant, freed slaves, or minions of other Tape commanders?
There was a Dreamwave illustration of Beastbox and Squawktalk being ejected so they belonged to Soundwave in at least one continuity.
raindance showed up in Dreamwave war within 3
he didn't seem to be blasters slave
