With the reissue of hot rod and the junkions in the platinum line who will actually keep hot rod? The last release was loose. I'm selling him
I have no desire to get that set. I already have two versions of that Rodimus (Classics and BiS), and I already have Generations Wreck Gar and Junkheap. That's plenty for me.
I probably will if it's max $100. I'll get rid of my current Rodimus since it's too cartoony and I don't have wreck gar or junkheap
Update: in that case I'll most likely have to wait till its on sale. Bet Myer or TRU will charge $300 for it which is 10x the price of just one of them
considering that i dont have a hot rod or the junkions ill definitely be picking up this set
I am tempted by the Junkions... just not sure if I need/have the space for...
Not sure if I've posted this before, but I think the Windblade mould could be customised into a really sweet Shodan (see my avatar) from the System Shock series...

it's highly unlikely that I'll want to keep the hotrod if I get the set. maybe at Myer clearance prices.
me.
I'll take hot rod.
Btw, PC has the set up for p/o for $130
Just putting in my 2 cents the next 5 autobot masterpiece I would like to see
1. Jazz
2. Springer
3. Blaster and cassettes
4. Sunstreaker
5. Kup
And Decepticons
1. Cyclonus
2. Galvatron
3. Astrotrain
4. Blitzwing
5. Scourge
While measuring the TF catalogues for TAAUBlaster, I noticed how much space Sky Lynx takes up in the 1986 one.
Made me think: With the large size of the toy, its walking gimmick and the Dino mode, Sky Lynx makes a better opponent for Trypticon than Metroplex does!
My son is working through my PCC figures and I noticed that Leadfoot has 'Blackrock' on his spoiler - wonder if he will ever show up as a personal conveyance of GB in the current comics
Isn't Leadfoot on the Lost Light in the IDW universe atm? I thought he was one of the security officers that stop Trailcutter from drinking Megatron's energon thingy.
I will admit to, in the last week and a bit, binge reading the comics again. All of them. From iIfiltration/Stormbringer onwards, spotlights and one shots and all.
Ah yes,meow I remember. Had his toy as a kid I think, Transfprmer AND a water pistol? Every troublemaking boy's dream.
Ah that's right, but Galvatron in Spotlight: Galvatron when he's there to retrieve Thunderwing
What the Night Sky Would Look Like if the Other Planets Were as Close as the Moon
^Doesn't include Pluto, which is 1172km smaller in diameter than our moon.
Anyway, this got me thinking about what Cybertron would look like in the Earth's sky. Now of course, Cybertron's size varies wildly depending on which continuity you're looking at. And there were two times where we saw Cybertron get close to Earth, which of course was in the G1 cartoon ("The Ultimate Doom") and the movieverse (Dark of the Moon). In the G1 cartoon, Cybertron appears to be about the size of our Moon. In the movieverse, Cybertron is massive -- possibly around the size of Jupiter. The G1 comics explicitly stated that Cybertron was about the size of Saturn. In the Unicron Trilogy, Cybertron is meant to be roughly the same size as Earth, so the nearest pic comparison there would be Venus.
So Cybertron might look something like this...

Heh - went to a pizza party last night where there were 3 little boys and only one TF toy. The arguments and whining were thick and fast until the host went and found two more of his in an old box. Funny thing is there was a cubby house and sandpit and bikes but nope - all the little lads wanted were TFs :D
I'm sure there's a sensible explanation for it, but I always thought Sky Garry was a strange name for a Transformer. Not being very familiar with the stories in which he plays a part, I always imagine him hanging around with his mates Sky Bruce and Sky Kevin.
I can't think of any logical reason for it. Bear in mind that English is an exotic sound foreign language to most Japanese people, and simply the sound or look of words can be more appealing than the meaning or any linguistic logic.
Hasbro has sometimes used illogical or even nonsensical names at times. e.g.
* Megatron. Mega is Greek for "great," but what's 'tron'? (other than the title of a Disney film franchise)
* Galvatron. 'Galva' actually comes from the name of the Italian physician, Luigi Galvani.
* Ultra Magnus. Conflicting feminine + masculine Latin genders. Not sure what the correct version should be... Ulter Magnus? Ultrum Magnus? Either way, I don't think it should be "Ultra Magnus." At least they used the correct feminine declension with Elita-1's name. :o
* Banzaitron. 'Banzai' (万歳) basically means, "Long live the Emperor." And yeah... Tron again.
* Kobushi. This just means, "Old Warrior" (古武士). It sounds more like a function than a name.
* Night Cruz. Cruz is just Spanish for "cross," as in the shape. It doesn't mean "cruise."
* Dr. Fujiyama. "Fujiyama" isn't a real Japanese word/name. It's the linguistic equivalent of saying words like "gooder" or "gooderest" in English. Yeah, you get what the person means, but it's wrong. Not even Thundercracker's that bad. :p #susanjourneyer #joshboyfriend
So yeah... English names/words matter about as much to the average Japanese person as Latin, Greek, French (etc.) matters to a lot of Anglophones. A lot of people just like it because it's exotic, but couldn't care less about the meaning or linguistic logic. Also, there are a few other odd Anglophone names used for Japanese Transformers, such as the Micromasters Joe and Alan!
I believe Megatron is actually derived from megaton, as in the explosive power of a nuclear bomb. At the time Transformers was conceived of, nuclear war was still a looming threat, so a name derived from the destructive power of a nuke was appropriately sinister sounding.
"Tron" gets used to make things sound robot-y all the time, but I have no idea where it comes from.
ETA: I looked it up - apparently "tron" is derived from "electron", so now it starts to make sense. While "Megatron" isn't a name with a lot of meaning from a linguistic point of view, the combination of megaton with electron gives a name that has a lot of meaning due to connotation. It's a shame no-one ever decided to make anything of the similarity of the name Megatron to the Hebrew Metatron, though a religious fanatic Megatron probably isn't the best direction to take the character.
There's some reasonable-sounding theories about the name Sky Garry here, but I still think it's a weird name.
To me it's Sky Carry. Looking at his g1 toy TR Sentinel Prime could be redecoed into him.
Props to the CW/UW Menasor head!
The whole thing might not look Menasor-y enough for everbody but that face has the best sculpt i have seen since I don't know when. :cool:
Well I just finished some new shelves so I now have dedicated MP Season 1, Season 2 and rest of MP shelves. Season 2's lineup however looks a bit underwhelming with just Smokescreen, Red Alert and Tracks.
Bear in mind that in Japan, the US G1 Seasons 1 and 2 were all one series ("Fight! Super Robot Life Transformers"); so from a JP POV, it's just one really massively huge season. So from TakaraTOMY and their market's POV, there is no real impetus to prioritise either season over the other. I personally wish that they'd prioritise the first (1984) series of toys for MPs, but I understand that this bias effectively doesn't exist for the Japanese.
Having said that, TakaraTOMY seem to pretty good at killing multiple birds with the one stone by retooling new MP moulds. e.g. Sideswipe→Red Alert; Prowl→Bluestreak→Smokescreen etc., so we've been able to get a good spread of 1st and 2nd year toys. Ratchet will be the next retool, but as far as other potentials are concerned, we'd have:
* Trailbreaker→Hoist
* Inferno→Grapple
That's it as far as original G1 characters are concerned. Other retool potentials would be delving into more obscure characters, and if the shelf-warming MP Road Rage is any indication, these don't seem to sell as well as mainstream characters. Even MP Tracks is shelfwarming atm, which indicates that TakaraTOMY may be nearly exhausting their available choices of popular characters to make as MPs.
They did: http://youtu.be/LkPOqV1Ok5E
:D
Just played with my FOC Combaticons and made Bruticus. Can't wait to get my UW Bruticus so I can put this crappy Bruticus in storage where he belongs.
Continued from here (rather than derailing what is meant to be a toy review thread) :p ;)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We all know that Groove is a massive pacifist. The G1 toy comes with guns, but they're described as being "vaporators" which he uses pinpoint accuracy in order to oxidise, freeze or corrode opponents' joints, thus physically incapacitating them rather than killing them. The Unite Warriors Deluxe figure comes with big guns too. I don't have this toy, so I have no idea what kind of guns they are. If it's anything like UW Superion, then the individual weapons aren't described; the original Japanese text just says "Silverbolt's weapon," "Air Raid's weapon" etc. I took the creative liberty of applying the G1 names to their weapons in the English adaptation. So I'm guessing here that TakaraTOMY would've done the same for Guardian/Defensor and not bothered with the individual weapon names. Also, Groove's G1 Japanese tech specs states that he comes with twin "anti-crystallisation cannons" (反結晶砲) and a photon gun (光子銃). And he boasts and impressive Firepower of 6!
So here's the thing; what do you think a modern-day Groove might shoot from his guns, to better align with his anti-violent views? Groove may very well carry an assortment of weapons or ammunition which he may choose to use depending on the situation, and I reckon they might include:
* Electro-stun rounds
* EMP blaster
* Restraining substances, such as sticky expanding goo
* Meta grenades :D
* Pain inducing substances or rounds; they would simulate the debilitating pain of something horrible like a Scraplet or Cosmic Rust infection on the opponent, but is harmless in reality. Basically the Cybertronian equivalent of Capiscum spray.
And one would think that Groove would now be a master in Diffusion; the Cybertronian martial art which specialises in incapacitating opponents while minimising harm to them (e.g. grapples, holds, take-downs etc.). Essentially the Cybertronian equivalent of Aikido, Juujutsu, Tai Chi, Bagua, Pankration etc. And it wouldn't be surprising if he carried melee weapons too; bearing in mind that even blades don't appear to be quite as lethal against Cybertronians. But he could easily carry blunt weapons such as extendable batons etc.
For my own future reference (and if anyone else cares)...
MP Laserwave release date: 31/3
