Unfortunately, it just sucks to be situated anywhere near the Pacific Tectonic Plate and/or any of it's neighbours.
This sort of thing has been happening for millions of years but now with greater and wider knowledge, plus TV Cameras and the Internet, far more people around the world are able to see what can and will occur.
