Don't hurt yourself over-analysing there champ! I think the general consensus amongst the fandom is that they sort of sit in both G1 and G2.

I personally regard them as G2 (because of their new insignia) and am very fond of Rapido. One of my first store bought Transformers back in the days! Be careful not to over transform him. The bonnet section tends to wear down and becomes detachable after awhile
