Default SPECIAL EVENT: IDW tour before Botcon

I saw this over at Seibertron

Reading through it, it sounds like an awesome tour.

unfortunate if you've already booked something for that day, like a botcon tour or custom class.

    and the price!! $500

they really only want a couple people to come along to this. I suppose too big a crowd would be unmanageable and increase risk of leaking of company info not yet to be released.

This I just don't get. I'd go for that, even though I'm not a huge fan of IDW, I still collect and (eventually) read their TFs comics.... but the timing is stupid. And so is the late announcement.
The price is excessive, but hardly a preventative element when you see all the stuff it gets you.

    • Your Choice of a Transformers Red Label IDW Limited book (a $125 value)!
    • Meet with Transformers Artists, including at least one unique sketch!
    • Tour of the IDW Facilities with CEO/Publisher Ted Adams!
    • The Botcon-Exclusive Transformers/My Little Pony Variant!
    • Advanced peeks at upcoming projects!
    • Your name in an upcoming Transformers comic!
    • Q&A session with Chris Ryall and John Barber!
    • Gift bag of IDW comics for every guest!
    • Free shuttle service to and from the botcon hotel!
    • Surprises! Cake! More!

The freebies are worth about half the ticket price, plus, how do you put a price on having your name live on in a comic forever. You'd be a canon character in the Transformers universe!!!

It doesn't state that the tickets are limited either... so if they want to limit the number of people going, I'd have thought they would say it somewhere.

Hmmm.... something to think about. (I'm doing the Seaworld tour that day, but could sacrifice the money if I feel $500 is worth it to check out IDW - It's not like a tour of Hasbro, but could still be interesting)

I feel sorry for anyone who is doing the Thursday Custom Class, and wants to go to this. At least I am only doing a tour that wasn't even something I was too keen to do in the first place, but was just something we missed in 2011.
I think there will be a fair few people going to this, if they aren't limiting the numbers.

I think it's definitely worth it too, but unless there's more information, I'm guessing it would be more like a mention on the letters page than being a character. (Hopefully, anyway - unnecessary Mary Sue characters can only make the comics worse.)

I'm actually quite surprised at how little response there has been to this on the global fansites in the last 12 hours. Sure it's been night time over there for most of that, but there's about 10 replies on TFW, and none on Seibertron.

I'm starting to agree that it would probably be just an out-of-story quoting of names, rather than in the story itself, as it wouldn't be easy to include human names in any of their current Transformers comics (none are set on Earth), and it could be impractical to include a heap of "cameo" names (if they had 20-50 people attend, that's a lot of extra "characters". Or if they did, at the most, it could be like a background list of names on a screen or piece of paper.

A day later and still looks like no real interest from the fandom over this. I guess if you are travelling a long way and spending thousands, a $500 VIP tour of one of the current creative houses of Transformers wouldn't seem so bad... but to the locals, it's too excessive.
It would be funny if there only ended up being one or two people going... but I think by the time the convention week starts, others will sign up while they are in San Diego. (there's no cut-off date)

If i was attending this Botcon then I would be jumping on this in a heartbeat, the chance to pick at barber's mind is priceless, and the goodies like the book and sketches make it a pretty good deal.

I was thinking the names may not be actual names, but closer to monikers for events battles. Battle of Griffin's Pass, decimation of Paulius IV etc.
