Hasui felt the same that's why we haven't seen Megs yet.

I'd really love to see Hasui's interpretation of MP Megatron. He perfectly followed through with the same cartoon-and-toy-accurate "Masterpiece" aesthetic Kobayashi had created and also managed to blend in his design style. Kobayashi was brilliant (what a talent! his first full-on design work with Takara after just graduating collage was Car Robot Speedbreaker, 'nuff said) but personally I prefer Hasui's style better now and I think he is perfect for the new MP direction. Looking at the differences between MP01 and MP10, I guess he will do whatever he can to give us a comlplete gun mode with all the beef-up parts. And with the new scale this time we may get a P-38 only slightly bigger than the G1 toy/real thing.

MP 01's gun's nearly as long as MP 10's leg You can however get MP10 to hold MP01's gun with a bit of manouvering, but it can be done, albeit very loosely. Looks great though with a great big honking gun!
MP01's axe accessory on the other hand may prove slightly more difficult though as it operates on a clip system designed for the dimensions of MP01. Its about ~2mm short

Im hoping this to come true.... on the other hand it'll be a real B$@$$# getting the toy here as with the new smaller size, it is going to be a more accurate replica gun than MP05 was....

I hate Megatrons alt mode being a gun.
You'd have a whole bunch of cool vehicles sitting next to a gun bigger than they are.
They need to ditch the gun mode, and give us something else...the g2 tank perhaps.

I can live with that!!. It is simply less difficult to obtain the figure if it were of different altmode, but as the MP line is going for G1 accuracy , sigh. Im torn

It wouldn't be impossible to own an Megatron if he were to be released again. Granted in NSW for instance there'd be all the legal ownership issues to deal with, but it is achievable. If TT do decide on a G2 version i'd be happy with that also.

Megatron is better off as a tank. Fact.

I'd be happy simply with a Grey/Silver iteration of a Tank (His G2 Alt-mode), much like Megatron is depicted in the 'Transformers: Legends' mobile game:

I realise what works on a canvas doesn't necessarily translate to a 3 dimensional, tangible assembly of plastic - But if Hasui's work with the Transformers: Animated line is anything to go by, I think this look is totally achievable; the Bot mode looks almost exactly like the G1 show model and the Alt mode avoids an immense amount of legal hurdles.
(Not to mention a whole list of other positives over a hand-gun)

Sure Takara aren't 'Supposed to consider foreign marketability due to contractual pollination clauses', but as if Hasbro and Takara aren't seriously considering this option? - Especially Hasbro, as they would definitely want a Masterpiece Megatron to market domestically.
(Especially factoring in the '30th Anniversary' marketing no-brainer )

...and let's face it, there is FAR greater repaint potential for a Tank-based MP Megatron than there ever would be for a Walther P-38 - Unless you guys REALLY want a chrome Orange & Blue oversized pistol in your collections?

A smaller size wouldn't make it any easier/harder to obtain than it already is. The law (and permit) covers all kinds of replica gun Transformers, regardless of size. G1 Megatron, Browning, eHobby Megaplex, MP Megatron etc. are all equally prohibited, and you only need the one permit that covers all those toys.

IMO the original G1 Megatron toy is already pretty much perfect for the gun mode anyway. Any MP Megatron is gonna be oversized in gun mode anyway. I'd definitely take a G2 tank Megatron over another G1 gun Megatron for sure. He could come with a small Dr. Biggles-Jones figurine, similar to how MP10 came with Spike. TakaraTOMY don't seem adverse toward making Anglophone continuity references in some of their MP toys; e.g. crown for Grimlock, although admittedly that was a limited edition variant. Hmm...

I too love that design! Such brilliant use of some of the iconic G1 Megatron body parts to re-assemble as a tank. Especially like the chest panel as front of tank and the curved shin armors becoming sides of the turret. The transformation scheme is half way there and I bet some third party company is making this as we speak.

Guess Megatron being a gun is a nostalgia thing. As pointed out in this thread the whole point of Masterpiece 2.0 is toon accuracy. G1 Megatron was indeed a hell of a faithful gun mode but the robot didn't look like Megs in the cartoon at all. I'd like to see a definite toon-accurate G1 Megs toy (MP10 is that definitive G1 Prime, hands down. MP01? not even close imo) and I think this is the draw of MP to many fans. And I'm really interested to see how Hasui pull it off when the time comes.
