Now that i look at this other foot, i think you may be right - but mistransformed looks better to me! Maybe proper transformation gives him a bit more sideways motion at the ankle.

The newer pic (on right) seems to have a mark just to the left of the black piece that touches the ground. On the older pic, you can see that mark is facing upwards. That seems to suggest that white piece rotates up (from touching the ground) to fill in the gap.
