Exactly my thoughts dude, I knew if I looked through the thread you'd of said it.

There is something to be said in leaving the BEST, i.e. Beast Wars , for last - in the case of the Generations line.

    Oh - F***!!!

I'd never even considered Magnaboss or Tripredacus! - Hell, even RiD Railracer could get a look in!

Straxus/Darkmount & Black Shadow/Sky Shadow are exceptions to that rule dude, not to mention Junkion Junkheap - It could do them well to have a mixture of old & newer combiners, breaks up the line a bit, besides there's always the Tripledacus & Magnaboss II repaint potentials!

That said, if this leads to a proper Piranhacon, Abominus & Monstructor? - I'll accept them in-lieu.

From what I understand, Black Shadow/Sky Shadow and Junkheap were both retools of existing figures. Straxus/Darkmount is the exception and was an original figure in his own right, but given the fact he is a tank, it's a mold that was destined to be repainted and retooled. Plus, he's a G1 character seen in the Comics, whereas Magnaboss as Magnaboss has never been seen in the west in anything outside of convention comics as far as I know. We got a glimpse of Cybertronian versions of the individuals members in The Ascending, but we've never gotten to see Magnaboss officially.

All this leads me to believe we'll only be seeing G1 Combiners. If I'm wrong, then fantastic!

My thoughts on Megatron(s): I think most people will be going for the grey, G1 styled Megatron, but in my opinion, it's not the definitive Megatron we were expecting. The proportions are too odd, and it doesn't have the detailing we'd hope for from an IDW-inspired Megs. However, in my opinion this is made up for by the presence of the Armada version. That toy has the advantage of being able to be a homage to both G1 and Armada Megatrons without having to actually be G1 Megatron. It also has a better colour scheme; it's almost inevitable that the G1 Megatron will be 99% Hasbro grey which is appalling. Although there are elements which do not match Armada Megatron very well such as the chest and torso region, Armada Megatron didn't really have much detail in those areas so it's okay, in my opinion. Armada Megatron is also a less iconic character so it's easier for Hasbro to take liberties. I'm also kind of happy that this is the way, since it leaves the excellent Animated leader Megatron in front as the best G1-inspired Megatron figure ever made. In other words, as is my wont, I'll be getting the version of the toy that isn't grey.

Thoughts on everything else: Brainstorm looks fun; Optimus Prime looks horrible; Movie Platinum packs all look good but I need to know if the leader pack will have the dark blue of the at-show pieces or the translucent plastic of the official images; Arcee is pure fan service for the G1-crowd, but unless I end up getting it as part of a bulk order, I'll be sticking with Prime Arcee as the best version of the character; I like Chromia; not that interested in Legends.

    Overall a good Botcon.

I was a bit disappointed with Brainstorm but after looking at more pics, I am beginning to warm up despite the very simplistic engineering.

The Fembots are pretty good although Arcee seems to be carrying the entire car on her back.

Legends like Powerglide and Bombshell are pretty decent.I am particularly happy about the former as we haven't really gotten a decent Powerglide, 3P or official.

However Windcharger, Cliffjumper and the voyager Megs and Prime are pretty terrible. The Megs mold works for Armada but looks really off as G1. The Voyager Prime is horrible at all levels.

Well, hit and miss really. Not very exciting for me as even the good toys come with a 'but' like uninspired engineering and odd design choices. However we did get some good toys and Generations is at least continuing.

Perhaps the idea was originally to have the tank Megs be G2 Megs, but then some genius said "Or, we put a spiky head on it and turn it into Armada Megs instead" and so we couldn't have two green tanks so they made one grey.

The chest is wrong though if it was intended to be G2. I think they just decided to do G1 Megatron as a tank and that's how it turned out.

That tank Megatron is begging for a G2 repaint.

If the Rhinox, Rattrap and Waspinator Generations figures sold well then it makes sense that Hasbro would continue with more Beast Wars. Afterall, how many G1 figures are left besides the combiners... and Head/Target Masters..? Maybe some more G2...
Which brings us to where we are today...

We were told from NYCC that the upcoming Megatron was supposed to be "definitive", so I doubt it would have been planned as G2 Megatron, although I could believe a G2 repaint was considered before eventually settling on Armada.

By "definitive" I (and I'd imagine others) assumed something that would blow Masterpiece and previous attempts at the character out of the water, and presumably be based on Megatron's current IDW appearance. This looks like a good toy, but it isn't that, which is what makes me glad of the Armada version, which doesn't have to be "definitive", just better than Mr No-hips.
