    Question $1,000 threshold for GST

My PoL from an overseas online store will be hitting mightly close to the AU$1,000 mark (threshold for GST) when a big ticket item becomes available later this month. Does anyone actually know how Australian Customs calculate the AU$1,000 value? I do not want to pay the GST for being just over the threshold just because Customs may use a different calculation method that I'm not aware of.

Do they use the exchange rate on the total value of the purchase at time of shipping (aussie dollar has dropped in recent months )? My earlier purchases in my PoL have been with a higher Aussie dollar.

They base it off the declared value of the parcel converted using the current exchange rate.

They do not include shipping costs in that.

I'm not sure about that, I would assume the exchange rate at the time it enters australia. the calculated value does not include the cost of shipping. I'd suggest but don't hold me to this, if it's a few dollars over they probably wont charge you import duties and GST.

Is it possible to ask BBTS to part-send a POL, up to a requested value (say US$700) to be sure it doesn't catch the attention of Customs. Or will they just tell you that it is your responsibility to keep an eye on the growing value and ship it before it gets too high?

Easy way to solve this. Just get them to send your PoL now before next lot of items put it over. Yes you will have to pay a bit more shipping but it's better than giving it in GST to Abbot.

Shipping costs are not included in the $1000 but if you exceed the $1000, you will pay GST on the goods, on the shipping and the customs duty. More info and worked examples here: http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page5653.asp

Yep, I negotiated with their customer service team over several emails to keep my POL at a declared value of less than $1000AUD by separating purchases. They said they'll do the change for me since its my first time but in future they'll stand by their policy. I was probably pushing my luck as I was sending them spreadsheets indicating the date I wanted the parcel sent with my expectations that the AUD would not drop further The week that my POL arrived it contained a value of $990-994AUD

I noticed on the back of Generations Rhinox's box that it acyually nams his guns the 'Gatling Guns of Doom'. I always thought that was just something the fandom came up with (quite appropriate too) rather than canon. Have Hasbro thrown us a bone here or am I missing something?

i've never tried, they are usually very accomodating but that might be something logistically difficult for them to do. I'd recommend just shipping your POL before it gets too big.

I think they've thrown us a bone here, but I don't know what they were called on the original toy.
