Is the Milk one official? The way it was written up when I read about it made it sound like it was just something the magazine decided to do and not something official.

It's official, but a hand-painted custom of a regular Evasion Optimus toy after it left the factory, so doesn't count as a regular factory-release toy.
It's unique like a fan-painted custom toy, but deemed official because it was a sanctioned competition.

so i managed to pick up a misb mp-1L in the hopes of getting the box signed by Peter Cullen at supanova.

My question is .... what do I do with it?
do i leave it sealed to protect its re-sale value ( even though i'm hoping to get a personalized signature therefore that will devalue the item )

do i open it to just remove the batteries to protect the casings from corrosion and put everything back and display it knowing its MiB

do I open it remove the batteries get the box signed and display both the box and the figure inside in all its glory?

If you're getting it personally signed to you, go for the latter. Worse comes to worse, the damage is limited to a slice across some tape.

If you're worried about the batteries, which is reasonable, cut the bottom flap, to get at it.

and assuming the 1L version is a nice black box like all the other MP transformers, totally get him to use a nice mid weight silver or white sharpie. that will look fantastic.

Get him to sign the box and the forearm so you can display him in either mode.
