Supanova in 2008 (four cities this year)

I get the feeling that Supanova seem to have less and less to offer with each passing year.

Is it just me or does anyone feel the same way?

I should that they still have some good stuff, but I think I was looking forward to more stalls selling action figures, and more discounts on the DVDs from the Madman stall (getting a $10 discount for everyone $100 I spend doesn't sound like much of a discount).

I agree Sam, Supanova was far better in it's first few years, but then again they had DBZ and Lord of the Rings to fall back on for the bulk of their guests.

Doubt I'll go this year unless I hear some good news regarding stalls or something.

Supernova is difficult to describe too accurately, because it is always such a mixed bag with content and themes. It originally focussed on anime, but they tend to get in guests from sci-fi shows, while having the occasional toy dealer and assorted merchandise dealers.
It's an expensive event (and gamble to find something to make it worth going), but can be a worthwhile day out for us geeks to meet up at.
It's best to just read through their website for an idea of what will be happening at your local event.

It's a general all-things-nerdy convention.
i.e.: animé/manga, scifi, fantasy, games, pro-wrestling etc etc.

It's a "jack of all trades master of none" kind of convention - as in, it's everything under one roof, but don't expect any one aspect to be well focused on - for example, the animé/manga crowd are the very general-audience kind of crowd rather than the more hardcore fan crowd (i.e.: there are more dub-monkeys than those who prefer subtitles/raw).

It's not good if you're looking for a more dedicated convention more dominated by more serious fans, for that you would want to look at actual dedicated conventions like Skywalking, Armageddon, Cancon, Animania, Mani-Fest, Crush etc.

Btw, it's Supanova, not "Supernova." The latter is the actual astrophysical phenomena, whereas the former is the name of the convention.
