Surely a bit of a fat finger... some kind of horrible mistake..

i know the postage cost has gone from 6.60 to 6.95 over here for small stuff but you get a tracking number included now, instead of paying an extra buck fifty for it

Postage prices did go up recently in America, so for the seller to be covered by Paypal/Ebay in a dispute, they have to use a certain type of postage... which is now about 50% more than before.
Sellers can still use a cheaper shipping method, but if you claim that it didn't arrive, the seller can't prove to ebay that it was sent.
It's a shame too, as most of the good stuff is in America, but now shipping makes it impossible to buy individual or small items.
Best thing is to find someone with several items you want, and get a shipping quote for the combined lot.... or have someone over there that you can trust to buy and forward items to you. (or go to a convention over there and just splurge )
The American sellers won't care too much if they don't get any foreign buyers from the high postage costs, as most don't bother (or want) opening it up to non-Americans to begin with.

Otherwise, it could just be non-fans hearing about how "rare" equals "expensive" when it comes to vintage toys (or they saw it on one of those toy-collector TV shows), and guess a price without doing some basic research.

the above is correct, but I'm getting a loose animated deluxe shipped over First Class Mail International (this seller is a trusting gentleman) and shipping is costing about the same amount as a pair of baseball cleats did 2 years ago. the cleats in their box woiuld have to be at least twice the size and weight of the deluxe. I'm yet to see the size of the box when it arrives.

It's not worth anywhere near that, as it isn't "rare" for a Lucky Draw gold toy. They produced 100 of those, compared to 3-5 of regular Lucky Draw toys, which people try to sell for up to $5,000. This one is priced at half that, and is really only worth about $500-1000.

I guess a rule of thumb on ebay, when putting on an auction, get the price and add a billion percent. Still though, not a fan of the gold things. Looks like a KO.

I think that rodimus is one of the best lucky draws I've seen, the higher flat surface area help make it look more shiney, compared to a more modern one with very complex surface geometry, it's hard to pick out the actual shape on the more modern ones.
