Received two 3D printed accessories today:
This was mostly to see what 3D printed items were like and I am pretty impressed overall. Naturally they are not nearly as good as molded plastic and the surface is not smooth but rough, however the detailing is good down to fine lines.
The Megatron mace was actually a very 'bright' purple so I gave it a 'wash' paint job to make it a bit duller.

How durable are they? i.e. would they withstand some hardy toy play?

They are surprisingly durable although I am not sure if it is as hard as regular plastic but certainly within the same league. So to answer your question, yes it most probably would sustain a fair bit of play.
