That is the best answer right there. Each parent knows what will work best for their child. Myself having an overly anxious, inquisitive, highly emotional ADHD child knew that the best way to deal the situation and Optimus Prime's death would be to reassure him that things will be ok.Different things work for different kids. Parents are best to judge whether they think a show is suitable for their individual child or not. Some kids can watch this stuff without getting phased, others not so much. Best thing to do is to watch the material first and consider whether or not it's suitable for your child. Of course when it comes to G1, we've all watched it thousands of times so... heh.
