Takara and Hasbro didn't do it wrong, they designed an excellent toy for a mass release retail price point. Even the cheapest places you can source this WeiJiang KO cost more than double the price of the official release. the average eBay price for this figure is nearly 4 times the price of the official product. (in Australia, which is nearly twice the price of the same item in America)
If Takara and Hasbro thought the market would support a figure with that level of paint and finish, they may have made it.
WJ have taken the design, and worked with it. they get credit for making something nicer than the retail product perhaps, but to slam the original designer/manufacturer for designing to meet restrictive price/part count/paint restraints to make a profit in a global mass retail market is unreasonable and short sighted.
I am considering getting this, it does look that good, but the original toy was a brilliant design.
