Everyones been talking about snowpiecer. Up to ep 3. World as ended by a deep freeze, a train runs around the WHOLE world with the last humans. Havent been able to get into it.
I'm sure the TV show is fine, but the movie was good and wrapped up all the story in the same time it would have taken you to get to episode three.

I’ve mentioned in this thread before that I quite liked the first season of “The Umbrella Academy” on Netflix.
Season 2 just dropped and it’s phenomenal. A big step up from the first season. Brilliant. Everything “Heroes” should have been, could’ve been, but wasn’t.

It does start to border ridiculous in season 2.
Not so bad you turn off, I wonder when they'll bring in Mr. Myagi's other student? Because Karate Kid III is canon in Cobra Kai.

Yeah, especially Robby, who for some reason reminds me of a cross between Terry Silver and Jonathan Taylor Thomas.
If they find a way to bring back Julie, then I'd love to see Chozen and Mike Barnes make an appearance too.

Not sure if people remember the 90's tv series Renegade. Damn, a laugh a minute & it's action not comedy. :D
The main character is framed for a crime he didn't commit. On the run from the Law, he goes from town to town to right the wrongs of those who gone bad. Throw in a few eye candy ladies for good, cheesy measure. If you're sober watching this, you need to grab a bottle of double strength Vodka quick fast!
Vaguely remember this from the 90's and don't you mean a double strength bourbon?

Lucifer: Just when I think it's getting tired it pulls another rabbit out of the hat.
The Boys: And to think that the graphic novels are even more graphic than this already quite graphic series.
Harley Quinn: Kaley Cuoco is the best Harley voice actor so far but that doesn't stop Poison Ivy* from upstaging her.

I've not been feeling the What if yet. I'm up to episode 4 for now and the only one I would say is good was the third one.
Dr Strange was definlitely a good use of the what if idea though and so I would put that as a number two. But eps one and two were not very enticing at all for me. I guess a lot of the appeal depends on the characters involved. I find Black Panther kind of plain to be honest and while I do like GOTG, that episode really wasn't very interesting for me.
Will keep watching, but if there are too many flat episodes, I'll probably not bother for much longer.

Four years after it first started, the subscription-exclusive Star Trek Discovery has started screening on channel 10 here... which is nice to see some new ST tv after so many years since Enterprise ended. I guess the new owners of channel 10 being CBS/Paramount makes it easier to syphon off CBS's exclusive subscription programs.
The first three episodes they have shown so far have been quite interesting and I am hooked to see how it goes... but the three seasons (so far) have been short (only about half as many as most regular TV shows in a season), and I fear that they won't catch up too much to make sure people keep paying their Paramount+ subscription.
It made me wonder why we've never seen Game of Thrones on any of the free-to-air networks yet... it's been 10 years now since it started on HBO's subscription/cable channel, and then on Foxtel here. As someone who doesn't like the idea of paying for TV channels or programs*, I've never seen a single episode of GOT, and I think it is really bizarre that one of the most popular TV shows in the last decade has not been on any free station here in the last ten years. Surely one or more of them have wanted the rights to show it over the years, but have been prevented from showing it. (Foxtel may indeed pay for exclusive rights to programs, but it's only for a short period of time, and programs/movies show up on free channels some time later to whoever pays the most for it)
Breaking Bad was another popular TV show in the last decade that none of the free stations have managed to buy the rights to as well.
With Disney investing so much into their newest properties of Star Wars and Marvel, and the setting up of their own subscription channel, I don't expect their newer programs showing up on free channels for a long time... and some of the new SW and Marvel programs look interesting.
*as an Amazon Prime member, I think I might have access to their programming, but have never had a look because I have limited internet access and a small monthly limit.

Not that short by modern/streaming TV seasons, short compared to older US free-to-air season model though.
I'm hoping that Discovery Season 4 airs on Netflix here like the first three seasons did, as I'm not interested in a Paramount+ subscription.

As Paulbot said - 13 episodes seems to be what current non-syndication shows are doing. Note that Discovery was written for CBS All Access rather than network TV so would have been written for a different set of needs. I think shorter seasons is also part of the bargain of attracting higher name talent, so that they are not locked in for the whole year and can do other work.

I think it was actually part of Foxtel's HBO agreement that they got exclusive rights to the catalogue (particularly as they ramped up their streaming services) which will limit any of the current shows going to Free to Air. Channel 9 was lucky in the late 90's / 2000's to have the Warner Bros / HBO deal which gave Australian Free-to-Air a lot of shows that were non-network in the US - Sex and the City, The Sopranos, Band of Brothers were all HBO series. Streaming seems to be the big ticket right now, so I don't expect too many of the first run shows / shows made for Disney+, Amazon, Netflix to make their way to free to air. I also imagine that there would also be limited audience for them to justify the expense to the network of acquiring them.
Breaking Bad was another popular TV show in the last decade that none of the free stations have managed to buy the rights to as well.
Oddly enough I remember watching Season 1 and 2 in the middle of the day on ABC. ABC & SBS have done a decent job of getting some of the small market quality programs onto either their networks or their iView/OnDemand

I'd expect it to show up on regular tv eventually, as they seem to put certain programs on streaming services to get people to sign up to them... and it is more difficult to avoid the commercials on there, so they probably get revenue from each commercial that is screened on there. It just might take a couple years though, as programs that were exclusive to 10play are now showing up on channel 10 (like Twilight Zone from 2-3 years ago, which started screening 3 weeks ago), and Star Trek Discovery from 2 years ago, currently from Paramount Plus, which might have been on 10play as well when CBS bought out network Ten.

Finished off American Horror Story Apocalypse. Found it rather enjoyable and a tad mind bending with the way it linked back to earlier American Horror seasons. Which I thought were separate stories. Channel 9 started playing Resident Alien on 9go last week, and I have been watching it... and it is indeed a funny, but dark comedy.
I didn't really buy the kid (Max) suddenly not being afraid of the Alien in the 3rd episode, without a more believable lead-up to the change of character... like, having the Alien eventually realising that he is unable to kill a kid (as he starts developing feelings for the humans in later episodes) so continued to bluff threats at the kid (until Max realises it's just a bluff and then has the courage to stand up to the Alien and try to prove he is an Alien). Unfortunately, the short season required Max to find courage really early, as he plays a part in uncovering the Alien's true form (Max is the only person who doesn't see the "holographic" disguise of a human that the Alien is using).
They are playing 3 episodes a week, which will go through the first season of 10 episodes quite fast.
Good news for some is that there is a second season, which just started this week in America... but will probably end up on 9Now, and regular tv in a year's time.

I've been watching Star Trek Discovery lately and while I found the first season relatively enjoyable, what with the Mirror universe shenanigans going on, and of course Malfoy senior being the captain at the time, I have since progressed on to season 2 and I must say...
What the hell happened??? The writing is ridiculous, I'm up to episode 8 so far and the amount of people in the show that have disobeyed orders and done really stupid stuff is beyond a joke. Like one character starts drilling into an unstable meteor or something by herself manually because "it's too dangerous to trust to machines and if something goes wrong the whole ship could blow up" THEN DONT DO IT BY YOURSELF IN A RISKY SITUATION WITHOUT THE CAPTAIN KNOWING!!
Ridiculous! And thats just the beginning, this is a search for Spock season. The mum comes along looking for Spock, then later on, just so happens to have him. No indication of how she found him or anything. Oh and the worst was one I just finished. Possible spoilers, but a character (I use this term loosely) dies in this episode, and the episode shove down your throat that they got along with the others failry well, but they've never really had any significance for the viewer until this episode. Then when they die, it's supposed to be oh so tragic happening, but the viewer's emotional attachment isn't there, because the character wasn't important until this one episode.
And it's odd as I spotted the character before and thought to myself, wow, they look like they could have a pretty cool little back story and be a generally nifty character... But until their death, they just potter around idly in the background. Until we are "supposed" to feel something for them.
Just damn lazy writing. I'm kind of far enough along that I'm willing to push on through to the end of the season, but dang man, Star Trek has certainly dropped a few levels (of hell) in quality since I last watched it (Star Trek Enterprise if you're interested).

Yeah I tapped out of Discovery at the second or third last episode of season 2 when it was first airing (new ep each week).
Some friends have told me that S3 is better, but.... Honestly there's heaps of good shows around, so dont know if I could be bothered with this anymore. Star Trek Lower Decks (on Amazon) is actually better.
Yeah I understand them feels. Like I have friends who al recommend anime to me, and I start watching, but the first coupl of episodes are a drag. They'll tell me "It gets better later on," well I'm happy for you, but I'd much prefer it if it STARTED good. and as you said there are heaps of good shows on.
I think as I'm watching it with the better half, I'll keep going.
TBH, after watching the new suicide squad, I actually find the conept of the Peacemaker TV show kind of interesting.

I'm caught up with the episodes for it myself now. It is worth watching. DC did good when they snagged James Gunn after Disney fired him. It's great to see someone take the source material and do it justice.
Speaking of same thing, Feloni and Favreau know what they're doing with Book of Boba Fett. Latest episode is just, brilliant

I'm really enjoying the new Reacher series on Amazon. Watched the first 6 eps yesterday.
Also Firebite is worth a watch. Another take on vampire trope based on an actual historical occurrence.
And of course, Book of Boba Fett. Havent yet seen the much-lauded Ep 6. (Had 4 people message me about it Thurs/Fri, so it must be good).

I heard about firebite. Looks like a really interesting concept. Didn't realise it was out already. Must find a way to watch it.

I just watched a series called "Action Figure Adventure" on tubi. Quite enjoyable and something a little different. A little bit of Transformers stuff including a vintage G1 Prime and Megatron featuring.
Was a good little trip down memory lane seeing all these toys from my youth, since I only pay attention to Transformers myself. It did make me want to get more into M.A.S.K again, even though it hardly featured in the series!

After your recommendation, I am 2.5 episodes into this show on Tubitv. It's nice to see the guy visiting brick and mortar comic and collector shops, which provides an element of surprise because I certainly just tend to search using the same keywords when looking to buy online. With physical shops, you're presented with stuff you're not looking for but might still appeal to you. Which reminds me i need to use my X'mas present $50 Minotaur voucher. :D

I've been watching the Amazing Race Australia and quite enjoying it.
I was heavily into the US Amazing race when it first aired, but got tired of the formula after about the 6th season. lol. This one seems fun enough and being based in Australia has helped improve the enjoyment.
I also think it has sparked a bit of homesickness in me (after 7 years of being overseas).
Oh finished the second season of Discovery as well, which left me wondering a few things, which it would seem I am not the only one wondering. I ended up googling some of my queries and many people thought the same thing.
Like at the end, the big bad get defeated, but they still continue with the time travel plan. Why? The big bad is on the time travel-able ship, but they proceed to travel to the future regardless. Why? The time travel suit can be made in the middle of a battle for life and limb quite easily. Why/how? The captain of the ship and an (now ex) Admiral go to disarm an armed photon torpedo's. Surely there are better qualified people for such a risky job. Like, Oh I don't know, someone who specialises in the ships weapon systems. The sub-captain's Sister and people suddenly being able to fly spaceships and stuff. WHa?
Plus some of the actors/Characters were just annoying. Like the engineer lady they picked up from some wrecked place, she's meant to be the grizzled veteran type character, and is, but is not engaging at all. And the genius alien princess character is irritating as all heck. For a drama based in space, there just weren't any characters I really cared about at all, mainly becuase they are either annoying, or have had no development.
I'm fine with the occasional suspension of belief, but this second season of Star Trek Discovery required a few too many of them too close together to allow me to enjoy it.
Pick up your game writers of this show!
(Goes off to watch season 3 hoping its better anyway)

Channel 10 showed the first two seasons of Discovery, which was probably a good "ending" if I don't get to see any more episodes... because (spoilers) from what I read, the "where" that they go to at the end of season two, they are not supposed to come back (at least, that's what we are told at the end of that episode), so there is no more interaction with the known universe of Star Trek, and for me it was the familiarity of the existing universe concepts that made it more interesting.

Without too many spoilers, one of the challenges of season one and two of Discovery (and Enterprise back in the day) was it was a prequel but everything, including the NCC-1701 Enterprise before Kirk commanded it, was more advanced/futuristic than any previous series (including those set 100 years later) had been. Season three ramps this up considerably but it makes more sense of the predicament Discover finds itself in and the unfamiliarity of existing concepts, what and why things have changed, makes them interesting than a prequel that couldn't really change anything (and spent Season 2 trying to reset the Klingons to something more familiar).
It's a very different kind of show in season three but I fear some of your concerns Tets will continue. You might struggle a bit with some of the new cast. And you don't like Jett Reno? She's one of the best additions. You might also have missed the Short Trek that introduced the alien princess character? At least the space battle at the end of season two was pretty epic stuff although the number of fighter craft available...
One thing that was marginally better in season three was there was a little more focus on the rest of the bridge crew (who aren't Saru, Burnham and Tilly), I can still barely name any of them but I could describe each of them which is better than I could do at the end of season 1!

Ah, I did indeed miss the Short Trek with the Alien princess. That explains my confusion about that character. I just assumed she appeared earlier in the season and was another forgettable character.
Jett Reno, yes, that's the one. When she first showed up, I thought I would like her, but the scenes where's she been just haven't really done it for me. Mind you I found season 2 very lacking in character exposition. So maybe I will find it a tad more bearable.
The prequel issues I also thought about too. I rather enjoyed Enterprise, but it was blindingly obvious the tech and stuff looked more advanced than TOS. A quick google though tells me that apparently the Enterprise ship was built before Discovery, so that could make some sense in a way.
As season 2 came to a close, I thought that it was a reasonable explanation as to why there are/were no other ships with spore drives in later series.
I also rather like the design of the Discovery ship.

I've never read the comics, but I really enjoyed this series. It's much like Watchmen, only updated for the current age of social media (while Watchmen is set during the Cold War). Another difference between Watchmen and the Boys is that the Watchmen were run by the government, whereas in the Boys the supers are run by something worse than a corrupt paranoid government - an extremely greedy private mega rich corporation.
Highly recommended.
This show is rated R18+ for a jolly good reason too. And I don't mean like Logan or Deadpool MA15+, I mean proper R rating. This show is absolutely not suitable for minors.

As is William Butcher. :) There must be some mad on the set moments where the two actors would've been yapping at each other in their native NZ accents.
Also, was it just me or did Karl Urban's Cockney accent occasionally slip? I thought I could hear a touch of his NZ accent slipping through on occasions. Which is odd, because he used the same Cockney accent for Skurge in Thor Ragnarok. Although he had far less screen time as a minor character in a movie as opposed to a main character in an ongoing TV series, so perhaps there was just more moments to notice these slips?
But even worse was Abraham Lim's Japanese. I struggled to understand him at times and had to rely on the English subtitles. He seemed to be making an effort to act in Japanese but just couldn't stick the landing. I don't mind that they didn't use a Japanese actor, but at least hire someone who can speak Japanese if his character is meant to be a speaker of that language. Oddly enough, the actress who played his sister (Karen Fukuhara) can speak Japanese but her character is a mute! :D Reminds me of the Black Widow movie where all these non-Russian actors and actresses are speaking with fake Russian accents, and the only actress who can actually speak Russian (Olga Kurylenko) plays a mute (Taskmaster). :D
The funny thing for me is that the only other role that I've known Karen Fukuhara for is Glimmer from She-Ra and the Princesses of Power... so seeing her play the bad-sparse Miyashiro Kimiko was weird. Oh wait... apparently she was in Suicide Squad, but uh... I honestly remember nothing about that movie. :p

I taped an episode of The Goldbergs the other day and watched it today, and it was a new episode for us here (I looked it up and it was the first episode of the 9th season - I didn't realise it had been around that long already... if they complete another season, they would have lasted longer than the decade that they are celebrating).
Anyway, it was a sad episode, as it was the first one filmed without the grandfather (George Segal died a year ago from complications from surgery, which I didn't know or didn't remember, so it was very sad for me to watch as well, as I really liked him in Goldbergs in the last decade and Just Shoot Me from the previous decade).
I think this will probably be the last season of Goldbergs anyway, because while I was reading up about George Segal, I read that the actor who plays the father in the show was let go mid-season due to personality clashes with most of the cast and crew, and since this show is based on Adam's life, they won't kill off the character or send him away, and it will be very difficult to have a show that centres on every member of a family then not include one member who is supposed to be living there.
It is probably best to end it now anyway, as it has covered just about everything significantly 80s already... and dragging out the show into a regular drama/sitcom no longer makes it special to the theme of the 80s (the whole point of the show in the first place).

I watched the most recent episodes for Picard season 2, and Halo. Currently watching these series, latest episodes seem to pick things up a bit. Last week's episodes were both not quite there, I found them boring, or maybe I just wasn't in the mood. The Wheel of Time series, I could not get into, always found myself fast forwarding through scenes. I have been binge watching Star Trek series, and Stargate series, all through my laptop with Amazon Prime video.

Picard season 2 finale, was good to finish. Finally some things wrapped up so we can move on, actually disappointing they didn't arrive to the ending sooner, but I guess time was needed for the individual characters and relationships. I think I enjoyed season 1 a lot more. I watched Strange New Worlds, the first episode reminds me of the older Star Trek series and for me this is a good thing. I tried watching Discovery, just couldn't like it, an I compare this with Stargate Universe which also didn't hold my attention.

I'm so glad the tv show "Hunted" is over...
I only watched parts of some episodes, but it was a bit disturbing how easily someone could be tracked (if the show was real). It felt like some of it would have had to be faked just for entertainment (being able to access phones and CCTV cameras without a warrant... and broadcasting the footage publicly).
One of the reasons why I think it was fake (or at least some of it), is that the Hunters in HQ wore the same clothes for 21 days. It suggests that those scenes were filmed all at once, to a script (or based on what was actually being done, but that couldn't legally be publicly shown).

Damn Channel ten is really pushing their new show "Brain Esteddford" - they must have paid Shaun Mccallif a lot of money (it is kinda weird having a 2-3 minute overlap with his ABC program, as they are both new programs, meaning that he must be currently working for both networks at the same time).
They keep repeating it 4-5 times in the week... the first week they replaced a first-run program the following night, in addition to the later repeats over the next few days.
And I don't quite get who the show is aimed at, because it is a quiz show with year 11 students, but I can't image that there would be too many high school aged students out there wanting to sit through an hour of school-level questions. Kids younger won't get the questions, and adults older may find the questions too much like a school exam and bring back the bad memories of being at school.
Since it is being repeated so many times during the week, I end up sitting through segments of it, and I like a lot of the questions subjects... except the language ones, as they don't really give us (the audience) something learn-able, as most questions are about translating words that aren't even in our daily lives.
Then there is the slap-stick humour, that kinda wastes Shaun's talent, as he seems to be playing to the contestants more than the audience, so much of what he does is eye-rolling, rather than amusingly funny.

Between this and the constant commercials of their latest reality show in EVERY commercial break (I am not kidding or exaggerating here - in the last two weeks I have been able to channel surf between the four Network 10 channels during a commercial break and sometimes each one will start a commercial break within seconds of each other with the same "Masked Singer" advertisement). It is so bad that they don't even advertise any of their recent first-run movies... it's no wonder Network 10 has been a financial mess and is never competitive in the ratings, as they put all their advertising space into one or two of their in-house programs, and completely ignore all of their imported programming which then fails to attract viewers. A few weeks ago they had premiere screenings of the latest Rambo movie and "Fallen" movie (Angel is Fallen), and I had no idea they were on until after they had started... and yet Nine and Seven are advertising their first-run movies up to a week in advance... and even their re-runs get a good amount of advertising, like Seven plugging Harry Potter movies every week.

This was unexpected, so I missed the first two episodes - the new Star Trek Prodigy animated show is screening weekdays on channel 12 (Bold) at around 5pm. There are only 10 episodes so far released on Paramount+ so it is likely to only last until the end of next week.
And I noticed last week, that the ABC channel 22 is playing the British version of Ghosts, while Channel 10 is playing the US version (it is like The Office and some other TV shows, in that an American TV studio preferred to copy a British show, instead of just playing the British show). After watching several episodes of the US version, it was interesting to then find and watch the British version, and see how it was interpreted, and what was modified from the British version to make it more American.

I've been watching Rings of Power and I must say that I'm really enjoying it. :)
The scene where we first see the Island Kingdom of Númenor sent happy chills down my spine, and I really love the theme music for Númenor. When comparing it with the score for The Argonath in The Fellowship of the Ring, I can hear the first few chords being repeated in theme of Númenor, particularly when we hear the choir singing in Quenya Elvish:
Et Eärello (Out of the Great Sea)
Endorenna utúlien (to Middle-Earth I am come)
Sinome maruvan (in this place I will abide)
ar Hildinyar (and my heirs)
The theme of Númenor has no words, but sounds like a more uplifting and epic version of the theme of The Argonath, which thematically makes sense as we are seeing Númenor in its prime, whereas the Argonath are the long abandoned and ruined remains of what used to be the symbol of the power of Númenor. The two giant statues of Isildur and his brother Anárion (who is mentioned in Rings of Power but has yet to be seen). As such, the theme of The Argonath has a more melancholy tone, shifting to one of dread as the choir sings, "tenn' Ambar-metta" (unto the ending of the world), and this is indeed the main more forboding theme for The Lord of the Rings itself (and is heard in other scenes such as the beginning of the Prologue etc.).
"Long have I desired to look upon the kings of old, my kin." - Aragorn (The Fellowship of the Ring)
But I think it's cool to hear a very different tone used in Rings of Power, particularly for the theme of Númenor. This is the Second Age of Middle Earth; three millennia before the Third Age which is when the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings happens. It is supposed to be a new golden age after the defeat of Morgoth and Sauron, but of course, there is a looming darkness as we know that Sauron will return, disguised as the Elf Annatar where he gift the rulers of Middle Earth with the Rings of Power (while secretly forging the One Ring).
Who is Meteor-Man?
He's clearly a Maiar, but beyond that there's not enough to conclude who he really is. I initially thought that he was Gandalf, but now I'm more incline to think that he might be one of the more sinister Maiar; possibly Saruman? Some people have speculated that he may even be a Balrog, but there are no records of Balrogs ever existing in the Second Age... and Balrogs are creatures that are too significant that their existence would not be recorded. But perhaps with some clever writing, he could be a Balrog and perhaps some event would happen where, for some reason, his existence isn't recorded for future generations to know of (it may frustrate some Tolkien purists though). I think it's too early for him to be Durin's Bane, the Balrog who battles Gandalf in Moria.
Some clues that he may be a malevolent Maiar include:
* His flames do not burn. Suggesting that he has some inherent evil that even makes fire cool; reminiscent to how the One Ring was resistant to heat, such as when Gandalf threw it into Bilbo's fireplace to reveal the text, but then placed it in Frodo's hand revealing that it was still cool to touch.
* The fireflies dying. Gandalf interacts with animals such as moths, but never kills them.
* Meteor-Man being quick to anger, and the way that his surroundings became dark is similar to how Gandalf looked when he showed a sliver of darkness to Frodo, warning him to keep the One Ring away from him.

Started watching She-Hulk, as I am a bit of a fan of all things Hulky. Up to about episode 3.
It's nice to see RuffaHulk in there, but I am not too sure what the show wants to be overall. It seems to have moments of 4th wall breakiness and the occasional moment of self awareness. Is it a comedy? There are comedic aspects, but I feel like the writing isn't quite good enough to pull it off properly. It's kind of interesting watching the cameo characters in the law section, Wong needs to have his own show I think, his bit I found very amusing and character appropriate.
It's all right, and I'll keep watching to see how it goes, but I just wish these Marvel shows had a bit more to grip you at the start. They seem to rely a lot on people pushing through because its "part of the Marvel cinematic universe" instead of actually having a good story and characters to make you want to watch it because it's interesting.
I felt similar about when I watched Ms. Marvel.
FOr anyone keeping up, I've given up on the third season of Discovery. I just don't care for many of the characters and I'd rather watch something more enjoyable.
So I started Obi Wan. Up to ep 2 and I like it, nice simple plot point and not excessively convoluted and overwhelming with Star Wars terms and bla bla. Simple, enjoyable scifi fun.
