Considering the response of the staff member who posted it with regards to their lack of confirming facts, I'm not quite sure I agree. If there was more of a genuine apology there as opposed to blind defending of a mistake then my opinion would change (edit: what would have been better handling of the situation by them once the mistake had been realised would have been an alteration to the original post and article, linking not just to the projects's website, but this thread as well as linking to information quotes directly from the source, rather than trying to justify it).
