Default G2 Pyro and Deftwing boxes

    Hey all

Im working on a few new boxes for someone and thought i would share the final product with ya and see what you think.

The person these are for wanted some european style boxes for Pyro and Deftwing. They are not the most complex boxes i have made but they were fun to make. I think the hardest part was recreaking the weather and wore out looking circuit board background. I couldnt make it exacly like the original boxes but its a very close match i think. Im still waiting for the person to approve the final version so i can print them out and build them. I'll post some pics of the final product once i get them finished

Have a look and tell me what ya think

    -Curt

That looks awesome! Part of me fears that it might be too awesome and it would be a shame if counterfeiters were to get hold of your work and abuse it for the manufacture of KOs. Suggestion: you could replace or add to the copyright blurb on the back of the box with something like "Replica packaging. Do not reproduce for profit." ??? Just a suggestion.

Also, sorry to nitpick, but those are technically G1 Pyro and Deftwing package designs. Their G2 designs looked different. Here's a comparison between Fearswoop's G1 and G2 packaging:

    Hey glad you like them

Yeah the boxes are pretty different than the originals. The main thing being is the entire box is in english and the orignals were multi language boxes and the bottoms of the boxes did not have images of the toys, it was just art and a bunch of text which looked crappy. Also i dont think the transformation pictures match the originals. The person i made these for just took pics of his toys in different transformation stages and i edited and added them to the layouts.

I doubt anyone could copy them because the final boxes do not scan too well and would look blurry, and i never give out full size images of my layouts.. Plus its G2 :P which doesnt get much love lol.

Im not big on G2 unless its one of the G1 figures repainted in the line. But the way this guy described everything to me was the style i made were only sold in europe and the one with the explosion burst behind the box art were the US version. So thats what im going on with it . Like he said the pyro on the left was the US release and the one on the right was a euro release..

They were also sold in Australia and New Zealand too. They were made for the European market which is why they're commonly referred to as "European exclusives," but the fact is that they were definitely sold in Australasia as well. Most of what Hasbro made for the Euro market we got in Australasia too. (e.g. 1991 Action Masters, Motorvators, Autobot Rescue Force, 1992 Constructicons, Predators, Turbomasters, Lightformers, Trakkons, Skyscorchers et al.)

    euro/aus(nz) release.

In early 1993 Hasbro released these toys in the European/Australasian market -- it was before G2 was launched so technically they are Generation 1 toys. Later that year Hasbro repackaged the same toys in G2 packaging. So these exact same toys can be either G1 or G2 depending on what packaging they came in -- and sometimes their names would change too. For example, the Autobot Obliterator was called Pyro in his G1 packaging, but when Hasbro repackaged him for G2 he was called "Spark." His Decepticon counterpart was called Clench in his original G1 packaging, but when he was released later for G2 his name was changed to "Colossus." So if you get these toys loose, it's impossible to determine whether they're G1 or G2, because the toys themselves are identical -- the _only_ difference was the packaging!

As a result, many fans simply call them "G1.5"

Until 1997, we were part of Hasbro UK, so it can still just be referred to as "European" for convenience and as a shorter reference terminology. We may not be a part of Europe geographically, and may have differed slightly with our product lineup, but when it came to our source of toys at that time, we weren't a separate Hasbro market.
And for the majority of fans (Americans), referring to them as just European is not wrong, or requiring correction.

Either way, absolutely stunning work as always Primul and I'm glad to see you've been kept busy.
Seriously, how are you not on the Package Design Team for Hasbro or TakaraTomy?
