    Default Toy sale?

So I've heard a few people referring to mid-year toy sales, often in reference to the Platinum series. Being a bloody pom and this time of year being summer in Pommyland when all the kids are busy playing outside (yeah, right) we don't have such a thing, at least not as an event.

So... what can I expect from this? When is it likely to be? Do we tend to see a lot of new product around this time? Should I save all my pennies up for this and not buy anything else? Or is not worth getting excited about?

Any help educating me would be appreciated!

Each store brand usually has one or two lines eg: deluxe or voyager that is at a good to very good sale price.
Kmart and Big W tend to have better sale prices overall simply because they start at a lower price point than Myer, David Jones, TRU and Target. David Jones haven't really been stocking anything lately so I wouldn't even bother with them.

Sometimes a store will have a particular draw card like the platinum magnus.
In the past Target had MP-04 one year for $180. sometimes these items are in small numbers so it's worth getting there as soon as the sale starts or even the evening before, as sometimes the prices are in the system prior to cloase of business the day before.

It's not uncommon from year to year to have a new wave or two drop around the time of the sale so if there is a bunch of normal retail figures your waiting on then it might be worth waiting for the sale.

also make sure you get hold of the catalogues in advance, most of the stores start their sales at a different time to corner the market seperately. knowing what you're going to get where takes a lot of the guess work out of it. keeping in mind that some stores just don't stock certain lines either.

I hope that helps and wasn't too confusing, for me the big 4 to watch are Kmart, Big W, Target and TRU.

    Happy hunting

That's good thanks. Any idea roughly when this happens, or does it just depend on the store completely?

You might want to save up aussie dollars not pennies though.

At the major retailer I work for we are expecting to get our toy sale stock soon, so you may see your local stores setting up for the sale in the coming weeks.

But please don't come in and expect that you will be able to get the special sale items like the YOTS/Platinum line early. I've seen collectors get upset with us when we say they can't buy them till the sale starts. Unless you are lucky and have a store in your area that has zero room out the back they will be put on show at the last possible minute.

Then those collectors are clearly absolute twits & should know better, seems almost like they could very well be Scalpers rather than sensible collectors IMO.

Now is the time to start looking for some new TFs. The toys are coming in in great quantities. As I've said before, the special stuff like the YOTS line will be put out at the last minute unless we have no room out the back, but it might be a good time to look for new waves of standard lines like BH.
