Hursticon was kind enough to mirror the official images that were released during SDCC in July, which had it's "3rd mode" shown... which just looks more like someone got halfway with transforming and gave up.

Really? - I kinda dig it.

I can completely see where people say it's purely a mid-step in Transformation (Kinda is ), but for those of Macross-esque tastes or even just Mecha sensibilities - I think it works, has a sort of Mechwarrior vibe about it.
