He can , but be careful not to snap the thumb on TW when trying. You wont be able to do the double hand grip pose like - opening the matrix pose - else you'd snap TW's hands,at best one hand but slipping it in carefully, as the gap is quite narrow and the plastic ain't pliable.
Besides I don't think Prime likes the idea of a decepticon grabbing his matrix
