Regarding the possible scratching of the spoiler when combining - It seems that you are meant to slide the spoiler in while both halves are 'squeezed' together as shown for Rodimus mode. It seems to go in much smoother that way and I have done several tries with no scratches.

It makes me think it really is just the one guy at TakaraTomy who does these, because you're right, a second opinion ought to have picked up on the transformation faults right away. Instead it's like he was not prepared to compromise on the look of any of the modes in even the slightest manner. Personally i wouldn't have minded a bigger hinge here or a thicker piece of plastic there, to bolster connection points where needed!

For those interested, Peaugh has just posted a video review of MP-09 along with some hints and suggestions with regards to the Spoiler.

And this was supposed to be the best toy of the year... I'm disappointed just from hearing all these comments.
    (I'll still get it though)

Judging by what's been announced so far for this year it'd win best toy by default
It really is worthwhile despite the faults; Peaugh's review is nice and level headed.

The toy does look good on all modes so it's not as if he is a sore view. The engineering is really clumsy but that only comes into effect during transformation and play. As a display piece he is still fantastic although the odd ratcheting joints they chose for the feet do make him hard to display in a stable pose.

yeah its great as a display piece (if you can properly display it in all modes) - but its first a toy and with that kind of engineering its not as playable as i would have wanted. I own Optimus, Grimlock and Starscream and the first 2 are really great to play with easily posed.

but for a $200 toy, i'd like to be able to pick him up maybe once a day, and transform him to one of his modes each time but i can't even do that with the trailer mode problem.

I am not a fan or Peaugh's reviews. He often gushes and glosses over the flaws of the figures he reviews. Optibotimus is much more objective, specially when it comes to MP Rodimus but even so, at least Peaugh seems more reserved when it comes to this figure.
