Rocket League. The whole easy to play difficult to master saying is true here if you want to chase it but a few noob friends on the couch makes for exhilarating matches. I love it. Other things I love about it are the fast servers and that it has cross play between consoles and PC. I love it again more still also. Always.

Yeah... i can't remember when I first saw the Mega Drive Virtua Fighter (it's actually VF2) ... but I do remember being dumbstruck as to why they bothered, especially so late in the Mega Drive's life! That version never released in Japan though, and the guys behind the 3d classics wouldn't do that to me

I think both VF & VR would look fantastic in 3d. I still find the flat shaded polygons and vibrant colours look great. I know it was a limitation of the time, but it ends up looking like an art style choice nowadays. They hold up better than some early textured 3d stuff like say, Gran Chaser lol. Framerate will be the most important thing to get right... i'm having flashbacks to the old VR on Mega Drive, which is a jerky mess!

Still, it was really impressive at the time! Hired it so many times with mates ... iirc it was like $180 to buy! The 32X version was a lot better, and i preferred the handling of the stock car too... eek, now i want them to add that to a 3DS port they haven't confirmed yet... need to keep my expectations in check!

I do wonder how capable the 3DS is compared to the old Model 1 hardware though, cause they're really made for different things. Modern games use shaders and things so i'm not sure of the raw poly pushing power of 3DS. If they can do VF with polygon fingers instead of textures, i will be most pleased!

Agreed. Both Portal games are great IMO. I just wish I could find the time to play the 2 player mode through a bit more.

I am curious as well. I know the reason the MD VR was so expensive was that the cartridge had a VFX chip ( or some chip....) in it that helped with the polygons. Since the majority of the sega games mae into 3d versions have been SMS/MD, I wonder of they'll just use the MD version. Hopefully they will have smoothed it out a little bit. Gotta admit that back in the day, it was an impressive feat, and well worth a night's rental!

Curious to know if they will end up with the 32X version instead. Could the 3DS handle that? (probably, but the programming might be fiddly)

Yoshi's Wooly world is everything I had hoped it would be. 2 player just adds to the fun. Sadly the Amiibo controlled character is terrible, it mimics whatever you do, just a few steps away and mostly gets in the way of blocks yarn ball throws.

At least the ammibo is made of real wool, they look fantastic.

Today I received my NES Super Mario Bros. 2 from the Netherlands. Unfortunately I was under the wrong impression that the NES UK/AU (PAL A) was able to play games from all PAL regions (PAL A, PAL B) and upon trying to load up Mario 2, I found that this wasn't the case as it's PAL B.

I am never one to give up so I started looking for options. I know about the typical Region unlock mod that most people use on the web which requires you to literally break the lockout chip connector on the NES Board. I am not a total purist but I don't like to permanently modify vintage stuff either so I searched for a less intrusive option.

Luckily I found this website that shows you how to do the Region Free mod with just linking some solder points with two wires. Very easy to apply and also nothing is permanently changed so it can be completely undone if one desires:

Tried it on my NES and I was able to load the PAL B Super Mario 2 with no issues. Hurrah! for that person who originally thought of that mod back in the mid 1980s and the article author for sharing it!

I only found out about this the other day. Do you know if it is the same with the SNES? I know the N64 will do all PAL regions.

I don't know, I don't have any PAL B SNES games. It is something that one may only know if tried. There is a huge amount of misinformation from people online claiming that all PAL games (A or B) work on all PAL NES consoles - I know first hand that is not the case now.

However if I had to guess, I would think that Nintendo probably implemented the same region lock policies on the SNES so I would be inclined to think that PAL B games would not work on a PAL A NES.
