Wow, nice double whammy of good news there. :D Congrats!

I started a new job today and was bowled over when I found out that not only do I get free lunch every day (in a glamorous dining hall no less), I also get 2 weeks off at Christmas which doesn't impact my normal annual leave! Working for a premium private school certainly has its perks it seems. :)

Gotta love parking during Christmas.

I'm waiting at a Give Way sign to cross an intersection that unfortunately has about 30 cars coming from my left, all in the lane that I'm giving way to. Unfortunate that means I'm going to have wait a bit, but to be a goody goody when it comes to driving I'm obliged to wait.

The drivers behind me start getting real impatient and start beeping their horns, I look in my rear-view mirror to see an angry driver curse at me words fueled with mass impatience.

She knows I can see I her and vice versa, so instead of returning anger back to her I simply smile, and laugh - which angers her even more and then she starts yelling and beeping even more.

I simple say 'umadsis?' 'umad?'.

Then went to the markets to grab some fruit n veg, hungry! Bought F + V, and a banana that was super cheap as about to go off, but nice yellow for right now.

Ate said banana and it was absolutely deeeeeelightful!

Brilliant day!:D

Haha, it certainly can be but it wasn't too painful for me thankfully. Just took the Facebook app off my phone then deleted all bookmarks, cookies etc from my computers so I didn't accidentally access Facebook within 14 days of it being deleted (which effectively cancels your request to delete the account). I've heard of some people manually removing every single item on their account, that would take YEARS! I did this for my photos but stuff the rest. :p

I don't get the mass hatred of Facebook. I get that people get hooked on it and waste so much time. I had this happen with my brother whose work went down the drain because of it, but if it wasn't for Facebook I would not of found my old primary school group of friends. We are even in the process of organizing a reunion as it is now 20years since we were all last together (which was primary school). So I am grateful for Facebook.

Yay for me. I finally saved enough to be able to buy a HA Roadbuster :D (believe me this is a big deal)

I don't get the mass appeal of Facebook ;) It promotes dooshism.

I always find it amusing when someone tells me they have over 100 friends on FB and when I ask them how many of those do they regularly meet up with that number is surprisingly nowhere near 100 (more like less than 5).

Hooray! - My new but old replacement Soundcard arrived yesterday! :D:D:D

After spending 8 hours yesterday arvo/evening juggling IRQ settings and drivers for a dualbooted Win98SE/WinXP DOS Gaming Rig, subsequently having to reformat both partitions and taking the opportunity to readjust their relevant sizes, I now have a proper functioning old-school computer! :D:cool:

It'll be serving an additional function also, as it is now residing in my Mother's paint room so that she can make use of her relevant artistry websites and Youtube/eBay from the comfort of her adjacent easel. ;):)
I've also been able to use this as an opportunity to practise a little remote administration by utilising TightVNC to install the relevant software and updates from the comfort of my own computer and this will also stop me having to get up every bloody time my Mother freaks out over a damn dialog box popping up.

I'll be employing an inbuilt LAN chat applet that I've just learnt WinXP has too, so as to negate having to yell from one end of the house to another. :p

All in all, some very pleasing and enjoyable progress in trying to keep my Networking and PC Repair skills in use...
Plus: Doom/2, Heretic/Hexen, Quake/2/3 as well as Blood & Redneck Rampage without having to bugger around with bloody emulators! :D:cool:

Thanks Geiger,

I'm honestly not surprised you'd have one as you very much love your Mecha, VGM from Canada had also eyed it too but already had the Japanese version and didn't want to cross-contaminate just to replace a yellowed number 5 Vehicle; Of which I can completely understand. ;):)

Indeed it is good knowing they'll go to someone who'll get proper enjoyment out of it, sure it's a toy but whilst they're inanimate - I like to think they have a life of their own (Just not on a Toy Story level :p).

Yep, you gradually get used to it.
The trick is to put some aside automatically in a ingdirect account or something similar, get used to not having it, so when you really need a wad of cash for something it's just there.

Went for a walk with the family today -- dropped my mobile phone somewhere! Looked all over the house and retraced my steps - nothing. When I came back looking defeated, my wife told me that someone had called up -- a good Samaritan had found my phone! :) Good to see that there are still some good people about.

I just had my second motorbike lesson today, after the previous lesson dropping the bike and busting my instructor's bike's mirror and having to pay for it. Wobbling around the carpark and resuming today wobbling around the carpark... doubting my abilities and his instruction. I've still gotta work on nice smooth takeoffs.

So after a slow start in the carpark stalling and taking some dodgy corners (again doubting myself) we got to shifting up and down gears (again) managing to do it well enough. We hit the road.

The next whatever it was in terms of minutes was just pure fun. Everything came together as we shifted up and down, took corners all on the back streets. Gunning the bike to 60kmh as directed, riding the clutch on corners etc on the back streets was sooo much fun. There was quite a few dodgy gear changes but that doesn't matter. I mean... I had FUN damnit and finished the lesson with a Cheshire Cat grin.

That was just what I needed as a confidence boost and a little bit of positive energy to keep me going.

I also loved when we passed another bloke on a motorbike and my instructor told me to nod when you see another rider. Shame the bloke didn't nod back. I wasn't expected to be told about "the nod"

Pretty damn happy right now and CAN'T wait to get my own bike/ licence. Oh the fun I'll have.

I'm really chuffed about winning a prize pack from Hasbro! :D Even though there's only one toy there that I really wanted (Air Raid), I'm more than happy to receive a lot of other stuff, some of which will be regifted to friends' kids... others I'll absorb into my collection :)

In my 28 years of collecting I've entered my fair share of officially sanctioned competitions and this has only been the third time that I've won and only the second as a random draw prize (the other time was for an art contest). So it's a very rare event and I'm super-duper happy!

Much thanks to Hasbro Australia :D

It is a bit.:(

To explain why I'm quite as happy as I am about this, my job is Assistant Language Teacher in a little town on the outskirts of Osaka prefecture, Japan. I teach at 2 Primary schools and one Jr High, for a city that takes pretty good care of us and actually values English education. I totally lucked out getting this placement.:)
Aside from a few minor niggles like not being allowed to have projects on the side (like, say, sourcing Japanese exclusive TFs at local prices for the board - sorry guys, the contract says no), the occasional difficult class and/or grade, the language barrier, and most of my fellow ALTs being Americans:rolleyes: it's pretty much my dream job.

That is something I really want to do in the future. Can you tell me how you got into it etc? I'm already a teacher, just to clear that up in advance, haha.No worries.:) What do you teach re. grade levels and subjects?

I got in through the JET Programme (http://www.jetprogramme.org/), though you can also go through other programs, most notably Interac. AFAIK JET's generally considered to be the best in terms of support and renumeration, even with the slight drop in pay for incoming JETs this year. JET is pretty much just a staffing company, your actual employer is the local government Board of Education.

Family's fine, though if you're coming over with a partner and kids the budget can be pretty tight on a single income.

City placements are pretty rare with JET (it's mostly country towns that don't generally have foreigners there as is), and more common with the private dispatch companies. For the most part country ALTs seem to quite like their quiet little mountain/island towns, though I've gotta say Osaka is pretty much the best place ever IMO.

You don't have to be a qualified teacher (though your coworkers really appreciate it if you are a trained and/or experienced teacher - I am/was a teacher before coming too) or fluent in Japanese (I'm not) for JET, but both will help your chances of getting accepted. TEFL certification helps too - I did a CELTA which is pricey and time-consuming but well worth it if you have an interest in teaching TESL/TEFL. For the other programs you're pretty much required to be a certified TESL teacher. The biggest factors in getting accepted are (apparently) flexibility, adaptability, and an outgoing personality. I'd probably add 'will take your responsibilities seriously' into the mix, though if you've lasted more than 6 weeks as an actual teacher you should be fine; either way there are a lot of 'OMG I love Japan I love anime I want a Japanese girlfriend sushi sumo Gojira!!!' types who apply and don't get in...or worse yet somehow make it past the screening process, get here, and hate it 'cos they suddenly find out Japan's a real place where you've got a (sort-of) real job and a real mundane life, with nary a giant robot in sight. To be fair, I am still sort of cut at the lack of giant robots...:(
The downside to applying as an actual teacher instead of the more common fresh-out-of-uni-graduate is, for many placements you'll end up as basically an expensive prop and/or human tape recorder, so it can be frustrating for actual teachers who really want to teach if they don't get lucky with their employers and coworkers like I did. You've gotta work within the system, and the system is as always all about the tests. And of course if you have other JETs chances are they'll be recent undergrads with non-teaching degrees, which makes for some  moments in ALT meetings sometimes.

For the most part you'll be teaching primary school kids and Jr High kids. Most people (myself included) come over not really being keen on working with young children, right up until they actually do it and discover it's really fun and satisfying.

Most JET ALTs start in July/August, with applications opening around September and closing in November. You'll generally be notified if you pass the screening process around January, and have an interview in late February. It's a pretty hefty application process and takes a long time, but I'd recommend it.

A few warnings in advance: if your criminal record isn't pretty much spotless you can kiss the job goodbye. Anything that shows up on the requisite background check that's bigger than, say, the odd speeding ticket, and you're pretty much disqualified. Even just a DUI will shoot down your chances. JET is really competitive to get accepted to. Another thing worth remembering is you can't turn down particular placements - if they offer you a spot in Fukushima prefecture it's take it or leave it, and if you accept a job and then back out later you can't apply for another 2 years. Age-wise, anything up to 40 years old is OK, though they seem to prefer mostly young-mid 20s.

Tetsuwan Convoy applied last year and is considering applying again this year, so maybe ask him about the application process too. My year's post-interview period was a bit interesting what with the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami so it wasn't entirely typical.

I'm always happy to help with any further questions/help, it'd be nice to have some more OTCA crew around.:)

Yeah, it only took around 4 months :) Unfortunately, I can't bundle it so it ends up costing more. Different providers since TPG cannot bundle home phone and ADSL1 (only ADSL2). This was my last try before I plan to disconnect my phone since I'm wasting $30 per month for the opportunity to apply for ADSL1/2.

It's just puzzling to me if it's possible to get internet at my house, why can't telstra do it for me?

Just bought linksys wireless N modem router (WAG160N) which whirlpool feedback is pretty crappy. Got it for $50 in Dick Smith when HN was still selling it for $200+. So I'm not sure if it really is crappy.

sounds good, I've found adealer who sells them second hand in the Dandenong Vic area, however his prices are pretty high and its whatever is on hand, and he doesn't refurbish them either.
I found another guy who is getting rid of a few display cases that have been refurbished to almost new quality, different sizes. They didn't suit my needs but I can forward his number if anyone is interested.

So, after refreshing for days and days, I've been lucky enough to seperately purchase SDCC Cliffjumper and SDCC Bruticus off the hasbro Toy shop, the Bruticus was there last night about 11.30. CJ was a week ago at about 9 in the morning.

Lesson, if you have a friend in the states with a us credit card and address who is willing to be your mule, and you spend loads of time refreshing a webpage on your phone, you might be lucky enough to buy these suckas at retail. Given everything else that's going on at the moment, this is such a breath of fresh air.

Just got back from the sonographer for the 20 week ultrasound...... Turns out our unborn daughter, is an unborn son!!!!

The guy that did the scan at 12 weeks was 90% sure that it was a girl... Hope he's not a gambler! Lol

Child appears to be healthy too, so damn happy and a little bit surprised....

:D:D:D:D:D

My friend just rang me early in the morning, I thought who the heck...? Turns out he just couldn't waito inform me that he was able to grab all the TFs in the list I sent him on facebook. So quite happy as I don't have to look for TFPrime toys locally at all anymore. He got them cheap as too, e.g. deluxe for $16 woth each. Found for me some asian exclusive generations figs too. Best part is since he owes me ITS don't have to blow any of my budget now. It's all on him hehehe 12 figures to look forward to migrating here :)

Yorkshire just won the first match of this years Champions League, this makes me happy, especially since Somerset aren't there this year. I now have a soft spot for Yorkshire having seen them play live in a Roses match at Headingley earlier this year, probably the most fun match I've ever been to. I wonder if this makes sense to anyone...

So during the 90s here in Perth I used to follow this local industrial/goth band called CSU - was one of the few at their first show - and even bought their first album.
It was on cassette and sadly has not stood the test of time. I dug it out last week, gave it a play and dreamed about getting it transferred to CD one day.
To relieve the tedium of work today I did a random google of the band... and found my favourite track as an MP3!!!

Quick - to the downloader!!!! :D

edit: oh my giddy aunt I think I just found the whole album! I know it's not unusual for music to be put on the webs but this is a cassette-only release from an obscure Perth band.

Oh internets... is there nothing you don't have? >hugs<
